HELP - Southwest Michigan

Hey guys,

I'm getting married on August 3rd in Benton Harbor and was hoping to play a round or two while I'm in the area. I'm familiar with Harbor Shores but I was curious if anyone had any other good suggestions! Anything helps, thank you!

This is another course in Benton Harbor called Lake Michigan Hills. I have not played it yet but am scheduled to play it in August. Based on reviews and pictures, it appears to be decent.

The only other course in the area I can vouch for is Whittaker Woods. Located in New Buffalo so not far from you, but be prepared to get your head bashed in if you cannot hit it straight. Very difficult course with some extremely narrow holes. However, it has very pretty scenery and is well taken care of.

Unfortunately it's not a great area for golf. If Harbor Shores is too expensive the best choices are to drive to Hawks Head in South Haven or Blackthorn in South Bend. Closest public courses are Lake Michigan Hills and Berrien Hills - neither of which are very good.

You might be able to get on Point O' Woods if you're willing to pay the (outrageous) non-member-accompanied guest fee of $200.00, which in my opinion is nowhere close to worth it for that course.

Harbor Shores is the nicest around, but you certainly pay for it. Lake Michigan Hills is nearby and is a fine track. Nothing special, just a fairly nice layout at a decent price. Berrien Hills is also nearby but I know nothing about it.

Hawkshead is great, Blackthorn in South Bend is even better.

If one is going to South Bend, may as well play two and include the Warren course at Notre Dame.

I second this. I just played the Warren Course a couple weeks ago and loved it. Fun, challenging layout and the conditions were amazing. Plus at $75 riding you really can't beat it.

Harbor Shores is a nice course but not worth the $150 price tag. There is only 1 hole on Lake Michigan and you can't really see it until you get up on the elevated green. Still a fun course in great condition but too pricey IMO.

The Beeches in SH is also a decent course. I personally like Lake Michigan Hills. I played there a lot when I lived in the area.

Good to hear. @Shriner and i played harbor shores and whittaker last year. Harbor shores was cool but for a relaxing weekend we are looking for something a bit more chill before we get our brains beat in at whittaker the next morning.

 

Trying Lake Michigan Hills, though we did consider both south bend courses. Perhaps next year for those.

Long, long time ago...

I grew up on Lake Michigan Hills - and feel it, as a layout- can stand up to any course.

Of course, having not played it in many years, can't vouch for conditions. Greens always were top notch
