2019 TaylorMade P790 irons (3-PW photos)

The post above might be confusing - those are not the lofts of the new P790's. As the poster references, that screen grab is for the 790 Ti, which appears to be Taylormade's ultra high price ultra high tech PXG/Epic Forged competitor.

Why dont they just stamp the 19* 4 as a three and then run it to PW? I know it really does not matter in the end but it just seems silly that everything is now 4-AW instead of 3-PW as it was up until 2-3 years ago..

Luckily I got to demo this club today at a local store. I was hitting a 7 iron 175-180 consistently, but out of nowhere hit a 200 yard flier. Didn't even feel like I was swinging that hard and didn't see anything outrageous going on with the spin. I wasn't able to reproduce it, but also don't think it was an issue with the launch monitor. Definitely will need more investigation..

I cannot wait to try these out. I have been playing the P790 with S400 shafts since they came out and I have not had any issues with strange fliers or inconsistencies. Once i figured out my yardages and adjust my lofts to have my gapping under control they have been as consistent as my beloved J15CB's but with more forgiveness. Before i get roasted, I am not saying this does not exist but I just have not seen that with my current set and will get a head to head battle as I can get my hands on some on the course. Now, the lighter shafts (like this 105 that are stock) have created inconsistencies that just dont work for my swing. Once i put my S400 in the clubs have been phenomenal.

It was an issue with the p790 first gen also. seems the speedfoam might be too juiced up at times. do you think it is enough of an update to switch from gen1 t gen 2?

You would end up with a set of irons that were .5 to .75 inches short vs standard length

The 38 degree 7 iron is a typo and should be 28 degree, simple critical thinking should have allowed you to make the correction. Complaints about the number stamped on the iron fall on deaf ears; the six iron spec is a strong 4 iron to my past sets, but if you read the article, the launch angle will be close to the traditional lofted irons with more ball speed for a greater range of shot peak, and a increased angle of drop into the green increasing the stopping power to place shots closer to hole locations from longer distances; a double improvement. My tourney set has a 49 degree Pw, and a 29 degree 5 iron. I have been playing with a set of Titleist MBT set and see the overall benefits to switch over to my tourney set. This set will play for 4 more years, and then it will be time to investigate a replacement set with a incremental improvement as technology advancements are so small that the engineers measure them with special equipment that show only 0.7 yards increase each year. My MBT's are 716 iteration and unless I wear out the faces, shopping in 2024 will compile enough improvement to see a actual improvement over my MBT's.

Titleist M4 8.5

Titleist 915Fd 14.25 3 wood

Titleist 915F 18 degree 5 wood

Titleist H816-2 21 degree Hybrid

Titleist 910F 24 degree Hybrid

Titleist 915 Fd 27 degree Hybrid

Titleist Tour Model, 681, or 680 classics; switching over to 716 MBT

Bob Vokey 54 degree mid Sand wedge

Bob Vokey 60 degree Lob Sand wedge

Titleist Cameron Newport 2 Select with 2 40 gram weights, Super Stroke 1.5

Titleist ProV1 2018 ball numbers 1,2,4 no 3's still working on this supply before purchasing the latest ProV1

Winner of 3 Jr tourneys in the late 70's; 1st round leader of 92 or 93 Public Links qualifier at Harding Park GC San Francisco

Winner of 2 amateur tourneys 97 - 98 at Willows Run Redmond WA; Missed qualifying for Mid-Amateur 98 at Bear Creek CC Woodinville WA bogeying 16th and 18th holes.

1996 club head speed 116 mph, 43.5 inch driver; 2008 club head speed 110 on a different tracking system sponsored by a club manufacture with my Driver (45 inches), magically gained 5 mph with their driver (45.5 inches) but I saw the ball drop 5-10 yards short of my driver.

Handicap low of 1.8, currently 11 after massive left shoulder surgery, only one set of clubs fit my current club head speed, excluding 25 sets, currently.
