Eliminating a hybrid (3,4,5 in bag)

Currently carrying 15 clubs in my bag. Trying to eliminate one of these to conform to the 14 club rule , leaning on the 4 hybrid currently. The loft are 19 22 and 25. Seems like quite e a gap but also considering buying an 18 and 24 adjustable hybrids taking the 18 to 19 and leaving the 24 alone. My six iron is at 26 by the way. Just for fun what would you do? Don't say get low lofted irons. I'm a once a week kind of golfer with a few rounds added here and there. 14.2 HCI currently with two artificial hips.

Shouldn't be hard, just drop what ever you are using the least. If you have need of them as approach clubs into par 4's all the time, you need to move up a tee.

Not there yet. As a matter a fact I've been 2 months out on the Right Hip replacement and was playing the Seniors but can't stand hitting nothing more that a 6 iron on the long par 4s. Going back to the whites. Tired of hitting short irons into most of them. Rather get a few wacks with the hybrids if necessary.

Drop the 6 Iron, choke down a 5 HYBRID. OR if you really like hybrids drop the 3 wood, I'm sure the 5W goes about the same distance.

I'd say cut the 3-wood if not used for tee shots a lot. If can't cut this one, drop the 3H and just hit and easy 5-wood or hard 4H. From this distance, I'd say the main objective is just advancing the ball and avoiding trouble. The number of times that the distance gap is an issue and we'd hit a perfect shot is somewhat limited.

 

I'm guessing the 5H still flies 10+ yards more than the 6-iron but if not that could also change things.

Interchange between the 5w and 19* hybrid depending on course as they are most similar

I'm going to try removing the 5 wood tomorrow . We will see from there. Still contemplating the 3 5 hybrid change. Believe I can get actually smooth a 3 wood for a 5 wood/ or step up my hit on the 3 hybrid. Anyone else got anything, I'll think about it.

The average approach shot on the PGA Tour for par 4's is with an 8 iron....

I would probably get a 4 wood and also drop the middle hybrid. But, if there is a place in your area, this is where it would be great to do a yardage gap test.

How much difference is there between your 3 and 5 wood? What's the gap between your 5 wood and 3 hybrid? Average strikes, not best shots.

Not redundant for me. If I am giving a better controlled swing. But you got a point if I put more on the 3 hybrid though I can make most of it up. So you do get points.

Drop the 3H. My old trusty Nickent 3H finally broke, so I replaced it with a 4H that takes care of the 3H and the 4 iron.

Most three woods are nothing but a headcover. I would ditch that and keep the stuff you will use the most

In terms of what to drop from your current setup, it’s probably 3W, 5W, or 3Hy. And may depend on course and conditions. You’ll figure out how to cover the gaps, even just playing once a week.

 

Since you’re looking for an adjustable hybrid, check out the Cobra F7. It’s the only one they made with rails and hosel adjustability. Neutral lofts are 20.5° 3-4Hy and 23.5° 4-5Hy. Would work for your gaps nicely. A good glued-in option is Rogue X hybrids; 4 and 5 hybrids at 20° and 23°.

I faced a similar problem earlier this year, I had a few too many woods, hybrids, long irons to pick from. I had a 1-hour trackman session with my instructor hitting all clubs in the distance-range / area of overlap (in your case 6i to 3w), and it was pretty easy to determine which clubs best covered the distance-range, and which clubs should stay home.
