PXG 0211 irons - what do you think?

I hit a half bucket this morning, just couldn’t stand driving around with them in boxes any more. Love the look of the top line. Half the size of my Apex. Swing weight at d1 still feels light. I only hit the PW and the 7 iron and was not at the range I use normally. I hit the, well and distance seemed on par with the CF16’s. I will be hitting all of them tomorrow and will be able to speak to the performance a little better.

I have stock mid size grips on them and they were just ok. I will put in a little more time before deciding if I need to swap them out. The driver sounds amazing and just wants to go straight.

Thanks for the info....It would be very helpful if you could add some more thoughts about the CF16 & 0211 differences when

you get a chance.

Which driver/shaft model did you settle on ?

I got the 0811x with T1100 white Evenflow stiff. I currently game the 410 LST with the Tensei orange X flex. Thinking of moving to the S though. I swing in the low 100’s usually below 105. The X can cause me to struggle loading the shaft late in the round if I get tired. Stupid humidity has been making that pretty normal lately. These two heads feel totally different. The 410 is long and easy to hit baby fades and draws. The 0811 tends to be straight to 5 yard cut. Like I said limited trigger time so I will let you know more ASAP. The head cover on the driver has changed. My friend bought one earlier this year and his PXG logo is trimmed in white. Mine is trimmed in red and it looks sick.

Callaway takes custom returns as well, but Taylormade, Srixon and Titleist will not take back custom fit clubs at all. Mizuno has to give special authorization prior to return on custom clubs.

Well looks like they rescinded their 20% restocking fee policy

Had my fitting today and can't say I cared for them. Didn't notice a huge improvement over the TM 770s I've been playing (that I hate). Feel was pretty harsh to me and stock shaft really ballooned on me. Did find out that I really like the KBS Tour V shaft and the Callaway Apex CF19 so certainly wasn't a waste of time.

I did my fitting this past Tuesday and ended up ordering a 4-SW set of 0211’s, with the regular flex Elevate shafts and midsize grips. I hit them better overall than my CF16’s, partly because we lengthened by 1/2” and went one flat on the lie. On my free 0811 driver, we found better accuracy by going with the Fujikura Pro 2.0 in stiff flex instead of regular flex like I’ve been hitting on my Callaway Rogue with a Kuro Kage regular shaft. Hoping to get them by the end of the month, gotta get as much golf in as I can before fall sets in up here in NE Ohio.

I recently had a PXG fitting and I can't say that I cared for the 0211's. I currently game NLG 923's and my NLG's are much more solid and consistent than the 0211's were for me (and I demo'd the 0211's with the same shaft I use).

On the other hand, every single Gen 2 0311 I tried was far superior in every respect (feel, control, distance) than my NLG's.

Driver: TaylorMade SIM 8* (standard setting) with MCA Tensei AV Raw Orange 75TX at 44.5"
3W: TaylorMade M5 15* (standard setting) with Oban Devotion 8 O5 at 42"
Hybrid: PXG Gen 2 0317X 19* (standard setting) with Oban Kiyoshi Purple Hybrid O5 at 39.5"
4i-9i: Callaway '18 Apex MB's with KBS C-Taper 130X at 1/4" long
46: Callaway JAWS MD5 10S
50: Callaway JAWS MD5 10S
54: Callaway JAWS MD5 8C
58: Callaway JAWS MD5 8W
Putter: Kari Lajosi Custom DD201WB

Elevate Tour Stiff.

Once they fit me into the KBS Tour V shaft I hit the PXGs decently but overall the CF19s had better numbers and feel. Not sure that is a fair comparison to make, but if I was going to buy irons right now, I'd probably order the CF19s (or try to pick up some CF16s on a good deal).

When I signed up for my sitting a couple weeks back, the heroes pricing was $105 a club, when I went for my fitting Tuesday, the rep honored that price for me. I saw where they reduced it again from $225 to $115 as of yesterday. I think they’re seeing what price they’ll command by playing with the pricing.

Two range sessions in so I thought I would give my initial impressions on the 0211 with the Accra 90i graphite shaft. Clubs are definitely lighter all around. Took some patience to time the swing. Smooth transition is rewarded with a strong high ball flight that even with range balls had plenty of spin. Rushing transition results in misses that are sporadic which is certainly caused by the shaft not loading correctly. I do like the feel and performance of the Accra but I can’t get away with man handling them like I can with the steel fiber. The heads look great at address the top line is exactly what I wanted. Missing these on the skinny side will be met with a very clanky sound and feel. You definitely know where you missed it. Sound is great anywhere near the middle of the club. Feel is similar to my CF 16 when hit in the center. I can’t speak to distance just yet since real balls and range rocks are so different. It seems that they are about a half club short. Hopefully testing at my home course will tell the tale as to how close they are. The jury is still out on the grips. If they do not hold up to humidity like everyone says I replace ASAP. I haven’t gotten rid of the callaway’s yet but the fact that this combo has mitigated my pulls is encouraging.

The driver did not launch the ball like it did during the fitting. I need to play with the settings but frankly my 410 LST is a beast. I will more than likely either let my son try it or pay it forward and find a member of the local high school golf team that needs it.

While I am still loving my 0211s, PXG does seem to be all over the place on hero pricing. And to an certain extent pricing in general. With the way they have marketed clubs in the past, it makes me wonder if the 0211's release timing and pricing was try to mitigate backlash for when they released their $650 per club "Super Tour blades"

$650 per club definitley falls back to the "exclusivity" that PXG seemed to be founded on. Even though I love my 0211s and they perform great, it makes me wonder where their place is in PXG's big picture.

___________

Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see if they are indeed 1/2 club short when you get them on the course with real balls.

I have cf16's and am on the fence about purchasing them as a possible replacement and keeping the cf16 for the back up bag.

Not yet. I was planning on doing it this evening but 99 degrees and humid made me call an audible. I may put some lead tape on the pitching wedge and see where it goes. I did get to chip with the PW and GW very nice. Turf interaction is great.

Nice to hear that the turf interaction is great. By the way, the 0211 hero pricing is now back to $125 each. Seems to bounce around.

Glad to have found this forum. Just getting back into golf this summer after about 8-10 years away. Did the 0211 fitting back on the 7th and my clubs shipped yesterday. Cant wait. Coming from my much loved ping eye 2 + purchased in the pro shop FT. Campbell summer of 1990. Had them re gripped and took a few lessons to knock off the rust. Went to the fitting-hit a 0211 7 iron shot so much toe I almost missed the grooves that went further that my ping. Thinking things may change over the next couple of years with my swing but probably a great place to start between the fitting and 29 years of tech change. Excited to get back into the process.
