Last ever set of irons

If you had to choose a set of irons that would be the last set you bought and used for the rest of your golfing days - what would you choose (new or older models).

I am about to reach 65 so beginning to think about this - currently use Mp 32s and though I could happily stick with these tempted to splash out for a final time on say some Miura or Vega blades - something with a classic look.

What would you go for?

I'm still playing 712 AP1 irons, with a couple 714 AP2 short irons. I keep buying a new 6-iron or 7-iron to try out, but nothing seems to knock the AP1's out of the bag. At 66, I may play them until I can't anymore.

I'm still playing my Miura PP9003's with steelfiber I bought in 2012 at age 61 with a view to be my last set. No plans on changing. They still play great and look great (yes I do use headcovers and use a wet towel as I go).

At this point, I'd have to chose Seven MB's. At a price tag of about $4,000 4-PW I wouldn't be able to afford another set.

... At 66 I am playing P760's and really love them. But if I had I pick one set to play til I reach 100, it would be my Cobra Forged Tours. Great feel, a little longer heel to toe and plenty forgiving for a players iron.

Nothing crazy or too old, but my original Apex ('14 version) hasn't been beat out yet. Multiple contenders lol, and these still beat them all. So good for me, I just bought a like new set when this set goes. The like new set in this line was hard to find, and I'd probably get another set if I found one.

I would take either the original Callaway Apex or the straight neck PP9003. I've had both, currently playing the miura and seriously regretting selling the apex's.

Callaway raw MB or Yoro MP20mb or custom raw 620MB or a future Hogan Classic rerelease.or 2008 TM RAC MB Smoke...hopefully Fairway Fred will add some insight....?

Maybe it’s my Ping ISI’s? I have been busting my butt with a lot of home projects recently and thought maybe I’d treat myself to some new irons as a bit of a reward. I went and hit the Cobra Forged Tec black, Callaway Apex Forged, and the Titleist AP2’s and enjoyed all of them. But after hitting each of them and hitting my ISI’s again I just didn’t see any reason to spend the money to replace a set of irons that perform great and have some of the funkiest looks around. I just really dig them.

 

So off they went to Ping and next week I should have my brand new set of Guyson finished Ping ISI’s which could be me last set. In another 20 years when I’m in my 60’s I can send them back for a reshaft and another refinish.

I jumped on a Heroes deal with the new PXG 0211 irons, straying from my Callaway Apex CF16’s that I’ve been playing the past 2-1/2 years. I wasn’t unhappy with the Apex’s, but did a fitting and found some improvement and decided what the heck, I’m 64 and not getting any younger so why not, plus the free driver made it a no brained for me.

If I had only 1 set to play with for the rest of my life it would probably be my 845s. They are great feeling and forgiving when I'm not at the top of my game and they're built like tanks.

If its the last set and it needs to last awhile, then Eye 2's, T/A 845'S , or Titleist DCI's of some flavor. Almost a better question would be if the Dr. gave you 6 months to live how many times would you change irons?

That would be my VR Pros, as they do everything I need an iron to do. Feel awesome, let me get away with not being precisely on the centre of the face, look great and seem to go as far as some distance irons I've tried.

my titleist 990's that have been in the bag forever, I have hit some of the new titleist irons but im just so used to the 990 that they will probably be in their forever

It would be a lot easier for me to decide if someone would take away my eBay account. Over the years my answer would be my Eye2s , i3s, i20s, then perhaps the Hogan Medallions I grew up playing but then again the hickories clubs are pretty great too. Damn, didn't think this question was that hard!
