I have never done one so i could be wrong but i believe most are you sending in video of your swing from different angles and them making suggestions. I do believe some will use Facetime or whatever to do a real live session.

You send in a video of your swing down the line and then a face on angle. Instructor responds analyzing your swing and then a detailed video about drills you can work on. Obviously a lot can get lost in the shuffle due to it being online but I enjoyed it and Dan was great in keeping the drill simple to understand.

I'm sure you've learned some important keys and position of the golf swing through some lessons. Try videotaping yourself at the range making sure you are matched up. Its funny how the brain works. The way a swing feels vs what it looks like is always deceiving. Best of luck in your journey.

This is so true. Not too long ago I tried videotaping one swing and what I thought I was doing was not at all what was actually happening during the swing. Thanks for the advice!

online lesson with Dan (Iteach)-

Depending on where you live getting an instructor that understands and teaches root causes is rare. I know that Dan does and he is very responsive.

The whole thing with online lessons is just to get some specific feedback about your major issue(s)- and be able to make practice time more productive.

I'm no slouch when it comes to swing knowledge but Dan was able to connect a couple of dots for me that I hadn't-

Part of that is another set of eyes, and part of that is that Dan has a gift

Thanks for the input! I have 5 more lessons in my current package at GolfTec but I think I'm going to look into lessons with Dan for the Fall. One area that would be helpful is being more productive during practice/range sessions by identifying specific things I need to work on.

It really all depends on the level of golf you are going in with. If you are starting from scratch then yes you are looking at it from a long term lessons point of view which they can sniff out and will probably sell you the one that fits your goal. Now if you are going into it with some established swing skills, then it might be a two week package of lessons which wont be as pricey. Just dont go into it thinking a lesson or two will solve your problems or a package of 6 lessons will get you from novice to pga pro. Always have a goal in mind so that you can gauge if the price is right and always look around for other instruction around your area.

If there is one thing I wish I could re-do it's spending 5-7 days a week on the range chasing solid shots. Anyone who plays at about a 20 hcp or below can spend time on the range; think they are doing something different and manufacture some solid feeling shots. That is the approach many have when it comes to practice- it's really just scratching to find ways to hit solid shots on the range.

I think it's helpful to know exactly what you are trying to accomplish too. I'm not trying to go to Q-school, but I know that when I do play I am capable of more than I have been showing of late. I just want to stay in the low 70's with a chance at the 60's. I just want to get more consistent. I don't care so much about hitting it a long way anymore, etc... mainly my wedge play is killing my scores. I know that I will put in the time to do the drills and video range practice- so having online lessons with someone like Dan makes perfect sense.

After many cycles of shooting 74 then 81 the next day I decided that I wanted to understand what I actually do when the wheels come off, when I'm average and when I'm good.

I could see and understand what was going on, but I thought it was all set up- because I had done this systematic work on video prior to consulting Dan my interaction with him was very succinct. I had taken the ball as far as I could down the field so to speak, and needed someone with some serious root-cause diagnostic skill.

There is another point here- the online lesson analysis has sort of changed the game. For me in the past, the one or two teachers I have had have been at my local club- I became friends and often ended up being regular golf partners with- it was more of a morale/instruction/coaching- long term type of deal. Which is cool and rewarding. Now- you can gain access to someone like Dan Carraher's diagnostic skills for not a ton of money- which if you listen to his instruction and practice the drills, you should make your practice time more productive.

All great advice. It's hard to find time to practice and find time to play also. I've switched to spending most of my practice time working on irons, wedges, and putting, which I think has helped a lot. I picked up the game about 3ish years ago, and I think I've made a lot of strides, but now I'm looking to make that next step.
