Yes sir. Was just working with my little shaft plane do-hicky again. I’m assuming that if I can get the club head traveling just above that shaft line using my pivot only (right arm over left) for as long as possible I’ll be on the right track?

I notice that I do have a tendency to slightly lift my arms. But if I focus on my pivot and then hinging my right hand back to get the club up over my shoulder I can achieve more depth if I fight the urge to lift.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks Dan, to follow up on that, and really don't feel obligated to answer! Is that all be caused by lack of depth? I get he would hit way behind the ball, I've seen this from lots of players. Always thought it was just how their athletic instinct works. Everyone has seen the guy with a decent looking practice swing, then you put a ball down and its like they become posessed. Just chalked it up to they just athletic subconscience just goes whacko.

He wouldn’t hit it fat. He wouldn’t get it airborne. Divot would be forward and extremely deep.

Depth helps control arm rotation and handle depth vs clubhead depth affects almost everything.

And thats' why I have a real job! I always figured that was going on to avoid hitting it fat and trying to 'push' the ball into the air!

"The keys to the effortless golf swing - curing your hit impulse in seven simple lessons" Michael Mcteigue.

Book short & sweet.

The video series of the seven lessons also on YouTube.

You just need to maybe forget all you have been trying and work through it almost as though you are building a new swing from scratch (though a lot of what is being taught actually aligns with a lot of other proponents of the golf swing).

Just from listening to my son's instructor, he had a bit of an over the top move, it was caused by his back shoulder staying high at transition. With good players the back shoulder, on a down the line view, looks like it starts down then around. When it stays high it forces the rear shoulder outward. Watch a Koepka video down the line to see what I mean

He doesn't need all that lol. Just work on more depth like Dan C. has said several times and go from there. He doesn't have a "hit impulse." He is swinging to the ball the only way he can from that backswing position.

Must confess have not read the whole thread - but nevertheless my underlying point was that sometimes it maybe not a bad idea to go back to some basic principles if you are lost rather than trying to adjust what is not working.

But having not followed the whole thread will bow to your view that he just needs to in grain a little tweak to what he is doing.

It's a three page thread, it's not like you have to wade through page after page to see what I'm referring to.

Surprised to see this thread pop back up. I’m definitely a believer that I need to continue to work on depth. I’ve been working a lot on 1/2 shots and it’s coming along but it’s going to take time. The biggest challenge for me is trusting my hands coming in early and working on better wrist hinge. I’ve been a forearm roller for a long time and this is very foreign to me.

I still may have posted the same seemingly controversial comment even if I had read it all - but now alas I will never know if I wouldn't have!

Tee hee!
