Venmo and feedback questions

Run. As I understand it Venmo gives you exactly zero protection

Just don't do it. A paypal account is no more difficult to open than venmo, no need for one but not the other.

Yeah I agree, but the feedback isn't working and I have no way of finding out . I'll try and look for past transactions

Even feedback isn't a guarantee. Just look at the series of threads going right now to see posters with a long history of positive feedback allegedly screwing over buyers.

I am all for a running thread where anyone who even asks for Venmo/PayPal Friends&Family/etc. payments is immediately publicly named. There is simply no excuse for using a workaround method unless you do not want to be beholden to the protections it offers. Don't want to pay the fees? Price it to take them into account. Don't have a PayPal account? Set one up like an adult.

People, you are sending tens to hundreds of dollars to a stranger on the internet. This is not a business that you can hold accountable. This is a person you do not know, and you will be unable to recover the money if he does not deliver, maliciously or otherwise. Just stop for a minute and realize how crazy that sounds.

Yeah, it's buyer beware. Maybe if the site offered the feedback again, it would help buyers. I've been a buyer and seller using Venmo and never had any problems. It's an individuals choice

There are pinned posts in both this forum and the BST that indicate that using only these unprotected payment methods is not okay. Simply coming on saying "yeah, it's buyer beware" does not excuse you from this posting requirement. Get a PayPal account like a big boy or take your sales elsewhere.

If the price is that good, have you offered to pay the extra % to cover the PP fees? It should still be a good deal for you and the seller isn't losing anything on his end. If he won't agree to this, then it's not about the money but about his not wanting to be held accountable for his actions in the sale.

If you’re on WRX long enough you’ll get bit. I’m a 500+ feedback guy and used PayPal gifting as often as I did goods & services... and I got bit. $600 gone. I was lucky in that I had dealt with him in the past and shipped an item to his work for him many years ago... so I had some recourse in that I knew his work address, phone, etc... and I was eventually reimbursed.

Lesson learned.

Don’t gift. Don’t Venmo, etc. Use the protections PayPal has in place, they are for your benefit. If the seller insists, pass. Period.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

Been a member here for many years. Never had a bad deal at all until a few months ago. Seller asked for Venmo. I knew my kids used it so what the heck. I was out $120 with no recourse. He had my address as I had given it to him to ship shafts to. But that didn't stop me from a few choice phone texts that I probably regret now. Don't use it unless you are paying friends. I already cancelled my account.

  • 1 month later...

I was trying a buy something from the person in question and he asked for Venmo and I told him paypal only and he didn't even respond after that. If someone cant take paypal then I dont need what they have bad enough to risk it for any amount of money. I guess its just one more for the ignore list. The fact that the seller didn't even respond to the my comment about paypal only leads me to believe that it was not on the up and up.

Use at your own risk.

Exact same thing happened to me this week. Easy way to make it obvious who to deal with and who not to.

You should forward the message to moderators. There are known scammers on here and there is a chance they are one of them (under a new account)

You are free to use whatever payment method you'd like. Many of the members here have already warned you. If you decide to proceed, please don't make an additional post about being scammed. We will all just walk away and practically leave you out to dry.
