Music on Course

There's a 100% chance anyone that's exceptionally dumb enough to play music on a golf course has absolute garbage taste in music.

It all depends on the setting for me. If I’m at the beach with the boys and playing some leisurely rounds and having some beverages, I’m fine with it.

If I’m playing in a tournament, playing a money game or really out to try and go low, no thanks.

Always mindful that there are other people on the course and would never want to impose on someone else enjoying their round.

Likely no, the guy who plays music on the course clearly does not care what others think.

How could we insult those guys? They'd never hear us over their music.

I know a lot of people that love music on the golf course and can’t understand why anyone would object. I explain it like this: I quite enjoy the smell of my own farts but there’s no guarantee anyone else will. In fact, most won’t enjoy them no matter how much I do. It’s probably best if I just keep them to myself and not force them on anyone.

One thing we can agree on is that they don’t even listen to music anymore. Have you heard their stuff ?

They'd be against anything written by a group of musicians playing their own musical instruments and singing their own song lyrics without any auto-tune voice effect.

Of course I'm totally generalizing but you get my drift :)

Never really listened to music on the course before. Today we were stacked up pretty bad.

Rather than complain on every t box we decided to just enjoy the day, we cracked a beer and put on the Tom Petty channel, low volume, really made the back 9 more enjoyable and we both played better on the back 9 to boot.

I'm not sure if I qualify for the younger crowd (33), but I truly hate music on the course. Part of the reason that I love golfing is the whole serene natural setting of the game. Music plays a small part in spoiling that serenity.

I love music. My Spotify subscription is my favorite monthly purchase. But I see absolutely no reason to combine two of my favorite things. I love reading, too, but you don't see me with a book in the cart.

Played a dark round on the Old Course as a twosome last summer. On the second tee my partner asks the caddies about music. They enthusiastically encouraged it, and we had tunes cranking from then to the 17th tee when we turned them off as we came into town. One of my favorite memories.

I hope if/when I play the Old Course one of these days I come away with a lot of great memories. I'm 100% positive that the "tunes" I'm listening to while playing won't be any part of them. My goodness, I have truly outlived my era.

I also hope nobody else was on the Old Course during your round, you would have been providing them with a "memory" of the round that was not what they paid for!

Unless it's a tournament and rules prohibit, then play away....those who are offended, interrupted, otherwise bothered probably blame squirrels farting, spiders barking or anything else for their missed putt or whatever they can...can't be the Archer

"Cranking" was a bit of an overstatement. We kept it quiet enough to not bother others. The caddy with the bag with the speaker on it kept it away from the double greens, for example. But we did have fun.

I can take or leave it, and typically let the situation dictate whether I listen. I also NEVER allow it to be heard from more than a few feet away from my cart.

However, the majority of the “against” crowd in this thread has done a great job of sounding like a bunch of wet blankets. If someone is being obnoxiously loud, ask them to turn it down. People enjoy golf in different ways, and for different reasons. As long as they are keeping the game alive, I say go for it.
