High ball flight and low single digits

Recommended Posts

ok, did some digging for my own sanity. According to this site (https://blog.trackmangolf.com/trackman-average-tour-stats/) , PGA average LA for a 7i is 16.3 degrees and 96' height.

According to my sky trak numbers from winter, my 7i LA average was 22 degrees and height of 96' and 6200rpm.

The majority of people I play with (5-15 cappers), hit a 7i substantially higher than me but shorter in distance. My current 7i is 165 carry and most of these guys are 145-155. I will try to get a few of them on my skytrak to verify. I am also not sure how accurate these numbers are on a Skytrak.

I fight a flip so I have been trying to get my LA down (which it has). I'm just trying to learn something here. Not sure these numbers apply to me as I don't have near the speed the PGA guys do.

Thanks Dan. So if I’m carrying 175 with 122 ball speed, slight draw, 5,800 spin, 100’ apex, and 20 deg launch (off a mat) with my 31 deg TM P790 7 iron, should I stop chasing a lower launch angle?

Correct. The mat and the design of those clubs will produce higher launch and lower spin. And if you launched it any lower your land angle would likely be not very playable

am interested in feedback about this, too. high ss with high ball flight (e.g. 42y apex with 5i blade and telephone pole shafts) and acceptable distance. for hurting wind i've worked on knockdown shots with slower tempo/speed and ball position a bit back -- e.g. clubbing up and "easy breezy". but i've wondered if i'd benefit from more forward shaft lean instead?
