Hi i started golfing 3 years ago and love it , golfed about 15-20 times , i got A callaway strata set , driver , 3-5 wood , 4-5 hybrid , 6-9 iron , putter and wedges , i have Since updated my 3 wood and added a 60 degree wedge , I’m not good golfer at all right now just working on being consistent with keeping it straight and control , i was Looking into buying a iron set to add a 4 and 5 iron because i dont Like the hybrids in my set , and possibly a new driver , do you guys think i should Invest about 600$ into irons and a driver ( was looking st rocketbladez, and a driver around 200$) or should i use The clubs i have Now till i can Actualy play consistent shots and control the ball and then in the future buy a even better set ? I have 600$ in dicks gift cards so it really wouldn’t be out of pocket but don’t know if i should Wait and get little better and invest the 600 into a nice full set

You could probably find a matching 4 and 5 iron on eBay for short money to see if that works better than the hybrids. Honestly, if you're not that committed to your irons, grab whatever catches your eye. There are a ton of them out there for short money being sold by guys who went the opposite direction and replaced their longer irons with hybrids. If you go to trade in clubs, the long irons are the lowest value for trade in out of any individual club.

Taking lessons is a great idea. A couple things that probably aren't going to change dramatically, but a teaching pro will tell you if you need to, are your tempo, transition, and swing speed. These are some of the most important components in finding clubs that work best for you. Take a lesson, and ask the pro about these elements of your swing. If they tell you those elements of your swing don't need a major overhaul, once you feel like your swing is reasonably *consistent*, GET FITTED. You probably won't get the greatest fitting experience at Dick's, but where you've got the gift cards, and you're still a relative beginner, it's not a bad place to start. They'll have a basic set of charts to go by, that will at least tell them "if Metric A is in this range, try this type of shaft, if it's in that range, try that kind of shaft".

I think you'll find that being in a set of clubs that works for your swing will give you a big boost in confidence and help you play better (it's not going to fix all your problems, but it helps). Then go back and take more lessons to fix all the little flaws in your swing that add up to big problems.

There is a case to be made for lessons i suppose, however since I started playing again in 2016 I have gone from not being able to hit a driver past the ladies tees to now getting it consistently out there between 220-260 (yes thats an issue, i'd like more consistent distance haha) however the fact remains i went from hitting a 5-iron off the tee just to get it out there to consistently hitting driver.

I've gone from probably shooting 100+ to now consistently being in the 80s.

I've gone from having a banana slice off the tee every time to consistently having a slight fade. Sure the banana comes around maybe once a round but its not like it used to be.

I lived in Chicago from 2016 to March 2018, now live in St Louis so it wasnt like i was playing 100x a year in Chicago weather.

With all that being said, i havent had a single lesson. So if you want the shiny new toy, go for it...i did. You are probably never going to be a scratch golfer, as most people aren't, but you can improve on your own.

People love touting lessons on here, i say, if you have the money, want a new toy...do it.

Any 'lessons' i have had have been reading articles/watching youtube, putting it in my head then kind of working on the tips at the range.
