Problem is, I can't discern if it was a bad bend job, or if it's genuinely bent from hitting...

It's from hitting. You really can't bend a shaft tip inside the hosel, when adusting for loft/lie. Keep in mind that it will almost always look like the hosel is bent, but what you're showing in that pic, is a shaft tip that's bent inside the hosel 99% of the time. I've worked on lots of them. Believe it or not, it happens a lot

Guess the question now is, go 105X, or jump to 125/130S...

Heavier shaft means more material and harder to bend like this. If it was caused by you hitting it, the X in that weight will probably suffer the same fate.

As an update - Nippon replaced the shaft, no questions asked.

 

Check your tips, gentlemen - loft was off 6*. No wonder I was sailing the green by a full club, lol.

I've found the best way to do this is to put some straightedge/ruler up against the hosel and see if the space between the shaft and the straightedge increases. I had one club/shaft that was obviously bent and it ended up that all but two clubs were bent as well (although the other ones were very slight). I know KBS gets bashed the most about this issue, but I am starting to wonder if it happens (bent) slightly quite frequently with any of these lighterweight steel shafts and many people don't know it.
