CK Pro White Alternative

Recommended Posts

I'll keep this simple. I was fitted for a Tensei CK Pro White, 60TX. Swing speed was consistent around 109-111 during the fitting and the Shaft felt great. However, after doing a lot of research my concern is that it may be the perfect shaft for when I want to swing hard at it, but it may not be great either later in the round when Im a bit more tired OR if Im struggling that day and want to tone down my swing into an easy fairway finder. It sounds like the PW requires a consistently aggressive swing.

What other shafts are out there that can stand up to an aggressive swing, but also sit down to a smoother fairway finder when necessary. Preferably in the same class or bend profile.

This is something that I honestly think is a *bit* psychological. If the shaft felt great with your swing then it felt great, end of discussion. If you're saying that your swing speed tapers off significantly towards the end of the round or that the shaft felt great when going all out but you're afraid that the stock "85%" swing might not work, then that is another story. But the bottom line is that you tried it out and it worked, no amount of research that you did after the fact changes that or really has any place in *your* particular fitting and experience. You have no idea what types of swings the people saying things about late round tiredness concerns with the shaft have and so that data should not be applied to your personal experience.

With all that said however, there has been lots of talk about how the Kuro Kage Dual Core TX shafts have a unique ability to feel equally good under both super aggressive and more mellow deliveries and they can be found used on eBay. I still think it sounds like the CK Pro White is fine, but if that late round feeling is something you're really concerned about then it might be work looking in to. The KK DC TX is a similar overall "White" profile as well, just make sure you're looking at the TX versions only as the X/TS/S flexes are the OEM versions. @TollBros may have some as well. I also have a few that I am testing but only in fairway woods so my feedback may not be directly helpful.

> I appreciate your honest and straightforward feedback. Thanks for giving me good reasons to go after my fitted shaft and still answer the question by offering an alternative. I have a random opportunity to try another fitting for free in a couple of weeks. I will ask for that shaft as well.

No problem! You're doing the right thing in getting your hands on the product and finding out for yourself. I would say that if you took your experience and research and reversed it then it would be in the right order. What I mean by that is, if you liked the sound of the shaft on paper but read it might be a bit stout feel wise, the best thing to do is to go test it and find out for yourself, which you did. The other way around just puts unnecessary doubt in your head. The Pro White is actually the first "White" profile from Mitsubishi that has seen pretty widespread fairway wood use as well as in the driver, that being owed to its overall smoothness and playability.

Regarding the KK Dual Core TX, unfortunately I would be extremely surprised if anyone other than a very top end or specialty fitter would have it as a demo. The TX flex never saw a public release I don't believe and remained tour only, hence the limited availability. Your fitter is likely to have the OEM version of the Dual Core, but not the TX version. This seems to be a growing diversifying trend/strategy with Mitsubishi where instead of always releasing a full "top end" line like they did up until the third generation of Diamana, they instead release an entire "OEM" line with tour only versions that get vetted and tested much more exclusively, only seeing a market release if they gain traction on tour. I believe this started with the Kuro Kage line and continued with the Diamana +PLUS line and I wouldn't be surprised if it continued with the Tensei AV line as well.

You’re a wealth of information. I did look a bit more last night at TB is definitely out of the shaft and eBay is slim to none (although I’ll keep my eyes open). I can now definitely see and understand why a fitter wouldn’t have KK DC XT TX. So then let me ask you a follow up question, which OEM KK would come the closest in profile to try?

See, Id rather not the counterbalance because the one thing I really liked about the CK PW was feeling the weight of the head and knowing exactly where it was through the swing. Thank you.

Interesting about the hzrdus smoke. Have you also swung a PW for comparison? Im curious, as I've never swung a smoke previously.

Nope, have only swung the older Diamana W profile which I wasn't a huge fan of.

Well you dont just throw a cb shaft in and go, you need to add weight to the head to bring up the swingweight to what you like. If your a player that generates some decent speed and can handle a few extra grams of static weight, this extra weight in the head can equal more ball speed than a non cb shaft.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think about it that way, and ironically enough, my coach actually did that for my current set up with my old R11 so i have no issue adding weight. Just didnt know that was the way to bring a counterbalance shaft back around. I'm learning a lot in this thread. I'll be considerate of that in my next fitting and will also give the PO a look and ask the fitter to add lead if necessary.

This video may be helpful on how counterbalanced shafts are supposed to work:
