Apparently regripping during swing, is this possible ?

Hi,

I am a 20 capper really struggling with my long game ( among all the rest :) ).

I have been seeing a pro on a regular basis but keep having the same problem :

I grip my club with a 3 knuckle left hand grip and a strongish right hand club, clubface square to target.

Even after a 20% slow motion swing, my clubface returns at least 10 degrees or more closed ....

My pro says I probably “regrip” mid swing but I strongly doubt this.

All advice is welcome !!4iu9gu1xkcp9.png

I don't see any regripping during the swing. Ask him to point out on video when he sees it happening.

It returns closed because your grip is too strong to begin with. Anybody can set up with the face square to the target at address, with a weak or strong grip. Doesn't mean the grip is correct.

Sounds like the pro doesn't really know what you're doing. The last time a guy I was seeing said "I don't know" i found a new pro.

You’re over hinging your wrists in the backswing and over tilting your shoulders in the downswing. Path is likely way right and you’d miss is way right if you didn’t close it. There is no regripping.

Everyone is a hybrid.

Thank you very much for the advice !

Meaning too much secondary tilt in downswing ( head going back too much ) ?

Yes. Watching your wrist action, the slide and left shoulder pitching up is probably a reaction. Post a DTL

No. The clubface being closed is hit the issue.

I don't know the reason but since switching to single plane (or at least not trying to raise my arms at the end of the back swing) I feel more comfortable. Fewer moving parts I suppose. Pretty much all I have to do is turn away from the target then turn back to face it. Arms, wrists and hands take care of themselves.

Most the extra moves were caused by the grip.

How your hands are on the golf grip and how it interact with the golf swing to return the grip ( the club face) to the golf ball is a one movement of cause and effect.

Incorrectly gripping, will promote all the issue, where a correct gripping position will allow all the movements in a golf swing to happen naturally ( at least at the portion away from the core ). Please discuss this with your instructor.

You have a lot of good going on.

Do you have this problem with all clubs or just the longer ones?

I'm with Toolish here. Yes, if you watch your left hand at takeaway in the first video, you left hand rolls MUCH stronger as you begin the takeaway than what it was at address. This should not be happening. It almost seems like your grip is too loose and you grip tighter to take the club back. I honestly think I would hook the ball off the planet if I did that!
