Good ball for 50-60 swing speed

So asking for a golfing friend. He only drives about 150 ish so I'm estimating a swing speed of 50-60. The Srixon Soft Feel seems like a good choice, but I know there's even softer ones.

Can you go too soft? Does that Srixon seen like a good choice?

And yes, i know a fitting is the "best" way to do this, but neither of us are good enough to bother right now

Probably doesn't matter much tbh. The data I've seen seems to stop around CHS of around 75mph but oddly enough balls with higher compression still did very well in overall distance, such as ProV1x. This is likely because the ball spins a bit more, which is very much needed for slower speed players to keep the ball in the air.

I wouldn't make too much of a deal of it. Just tell your buddy to play whatever he finds or can get cheap. Maybe spend his time/money on lessons to help get that swing improving.

"Regardless of swing speed, the golf balls today are compressed on drivers and will go about the same distance." - Dean Snell

The Snell article is interesting, but I'm not sure I buy it. Physics alone seems to debunk that all drivers compress equally. And as for his comment regarding the number of shots, while I see his point, my golfing partner, even on a nominal length par 4 takes 3 shots minimum to get near the green, so distance is more important right now.

Just played maxfli softfli yesterday and loved them...LONG and straight.

And to mr Snell I disagree I was hitting that ball 240+ consistently which i never did with a urethane ball. In fact a couple holes i used a ksig 3 piece off the tee because of OB or breakfast ball and didnt go over 220 with that. Is it just coincidence that 3 tee shots were terrible while the other 10 were great?

Lol ok I must've just been on yesterday because playing urethane the whole season and every round the majority of my drives were 230ish with the occasional 260 or 270. It's well documented on here asking about my issues cuz my ss is around 100, no way my avg drive should be 230.

The type of cover on the ball has about zero to do with the distance you would get with a driver. On two equally struck balls at your swing speed, the K-sig 3 might give up 4 yards of carry because it's a higher spin ball than most off the driver. But again, the spin off the driver has nothing to do with the cover, it is all about the core. The cover only makes a difference on iron shots and especially wedge shots.

I'd recommend the Srixon Zstar and for him to buy when they run the Buy one get one. Premium urethane ball for about $20 a dozen.
