GolfWRX 2019 Best Drivers Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok WRXers....What is the best driver for 2019? We can't answer that for _you_ specifically but we did ask 13 top club fitters to answer that question for three different speed profiles and then asked for the best overall.

Why ask the fitters? Why not? They are the experts! All day, all year they are grinding in fittings. The list comprises of the best fitters in the industry. All they do all day is work with launch monitors and golfers to determine what driver is the best for that golfer. [Here is a link to the article on the front page](http://www.golfwrx.com/562742/best-driver-of-2019/ "Here is a link to the article on the front page"). With so many great options from all of the manufacturers, it was impossible not to find a driver that got you excited about its performance. We here at GolfWRX wanted to create our list of the Best Drivers for 2019 and share it with you.

Is it not clearly obvious that it's TaylorMade M5/6? Look at the top drivers on tour and non contracted players that play these. (my opinion is for higher swing speeds 110+)

Titleist TSi3 15 deg - Fujikura Ventus Black 8X

Seems about right. Those are really the only drivers we hear about these days. I didn't love the Cobra (seemed to want to go left) If I was getting a new driver, it'd probably be the M5 or the G410lst.

I'd really be more interested in how the top drivers of 2019 compare to the top drivers of 2018 and if there is a justification to get something new.

My impression of Titleist clubs has changed recently- they are receiving high marks for forgiveness. As a mid-high handicapper, I would have overlooked Titleist in the past but I'm certainly open to the TS2 driver. The Surefit system offers so many options, I'd certainly need help from a fitter in selection.

In an outdoor demo of the Epic Flash it was really great, and was a consistant 12yds further than my Rogue. With that said, the price difference wasnt worth 12yds, and still isnt. I currently have the Mizuno ST190 instead of both the Rogue and the EF and its working out great.

As a fitter for the last 15 years, IMO and experience, the lead horses this year are the Cobra F9, Callaway Epic Flash, and the Ping G410.

How does the Epic Flash compare to the Rogue? I currently hit the Rogue with HZRDUS Smoke 6.0 60g. I also own the original Epic, but found the Rogue to be more forgiving on toe strikes. I have become a huge fan on Callaway woods.

Sound and feel are huge for me when picking a driver, and I can't stand the Epic or the G410. I dig the F9, but the 2 mph ball speed pick up over my F8 wasn't worth the coin. The TS series was a huge step forward imo to get Titleist drivers back where they should be, but I didn't gain anything over my current set up. The M5 was similar for me to the F9. Picked up a few mph, but not worth the cost. If I was struggling with the driver I'd probably be more privy to changing it up, but the driver's been very reliable this season, so why mess with a good thing?

Step aside fellas... we all know the correct answer is the G410+ w/ Tensei Orange.

My 16 M2 put every single one of those drivers to bed with the exception of the PING.

I owned the TS2, Epic Flash and Cobra before I gave up and back to M2 and then just to be certain I did a fitting w/ my M2 against the M5/M6 and beat both out in distance and dispersion. I used the same shaft for all three clubs so we know for fact TM from 16 out-performs their current stuff. The PING comes from the same gene-pool as the goat aka 16 M2 so there you go.

Ah yes, I fall in the 105-110 SS range if that matters.

And I nearly forgot... the new G410+ is on the Fedex truck as we speak and being delivered tomorrow so it is an actual sign from the golf gods that they concur with the assessment. I am going to have to get used to saying Terbulators.. Turbolaters... anyone know how to spell the spikes on the G410?

At 95 SS, easily fitted into an Epic Flash 10.5 in a light stock in the store stiff, and was hitting it with great dispersion laterally. Good square hits were right down the line or wanted to get back there, on a store sim that I know is not jacked and in fact adjusted for below our sea level, I was rolling out min 250 and up to 265 on good strikes, which for me is jaw dropping. Pushes stayed in play, pulls were probably my worst miss and stayed straight no ducking. I hit my BioCell+/RedTie S right beside it to a just nailed pure 249. Picked up driver, will be looking at getting an adapter for the Red Tie, it is perfect feeling so I want to see how it launches the Callaway.

All the reading I had done suggested that the M6 should be my best performer as a lower SS and more forgiving, and hot low face....which is where I miss it mostly, tee lower than I should but hit sky balls teeing higher. I probably didn't try enough shafts, it was long but I couldn't square it up very often. I still say it was forgiving, I hit some balls that would have been a fairway over with some drivers that, relative to the stanky hit, weren't that far offline.

There is one caveat. If the player has below 90 SS and is also a low spin type, the F9 is off the table. I would then go the Taylor Made M6 or Mizuno ST190.

Coming from a 2017 M2, the F9 is by far the best Driver that I have hit in 2019. I have the TL 9.0 with a Smoke 60 6.5. It's not the longest combo ever but attributes of the club makes it seem like I will have it in the bag for the foreseeable future. My index has dropped from 4.6 to 3.2 in the span of 7 months all because I HIT the fairway. The sound and playability have added a lot of confidence off of the tee. I love teeing it low and having it fly 260 on a line but also being able to play a high draw and it NEVER goes "FORE LEFT". Coming from a longtime Taylormade guy, took a risk and have not regretted it.

Epic flash sub zero w/ Rogue 130 black 60tx aka Phil Mickelsons set up has done wonders for me. Hitting it 280 consistently for the first time ever.

2 years ago I bought a M2 -- fitted and everything. Cannot hit it as straight or as long as my 2007 Taylor-made Burner Draw. Swing speed is 95 -- my pro said the M2 took too much spin off my ball...I needed a head to put more spin on to keep it elevated longer. **Which of these recent drivers will accomplish that? Or is that from the shaft more than the head? ** BTW, from my research the Burner is longer due to a slightly higher COR -- .83 I believe....was lowered to .80 later by the USGA but this club was grandfathered in. I love it when I hit it 10-20 yards past my playing partner who is 6 years younger and taller, etc. He bought a Epic Flash Sub Zero and I still taken him down...and straight!!!
