100 mph SS and low compression ball

Is it all BS or can I use a ball like this and be fine or even see better performance?

I found the maxfli softfli/straightfli today at dicks for 2 for 25. Loved the matte colors and had a 22 dollar gift card.

After reading the warnings online haha I'm having second thoughts. Is it like anything else in golf? May work may not?

Depending on whose opinions and data you believe, it will either work 100% as good as a "higher compression" ball or you may be losing 1% or so of ball speed by playing a ball "too soft".

Either way, it's not going to be a problem. If you like everything else about a low compression ball and (worst case) it happens to cost you 2-3 yards of driver distance, what difference is that going to make?

So give it a try and see if you like it. Nothing to lose.

At 100mph, you'll be ok. It's only north of 110 that a gap becomes anything to think about.

Ahh ok thanks guys!! Its also confusing when they just refer to "higher swing speeds", I know mine is higher than average but didnt know if they meant 100mph or 120mph!

As a side note, TXG did a video, Matt hitting the Duo U vs the ZStar XV. He's a bit north of 110 with the driver. With irons, distance was identical in their test, with driver, it was a 5 yard difference in favor of the Srixon. Which is what I would expect for his swingspeed.

Since the Precept Lady craze that spawned the Laddie, the only distance issues reported were the guys north of 110. The recent famous test by another site illustrated that, but little difference at normal speeds. Including the iron speed of the 115 driver test.

I think its important to note that just about every test ive seen, regardless of swing speed, BALL SPEED will be down using lower compression balls. Now whether or not that translates to distance loss is another thing. Usually lower compression balls spin less and can make up for some ball speed loss.

The difference marginalizes as speed decreases, and apparently not in a linear fashion. In the famous ball test, Duo U has essentially the same ball speed at the 7i for the 85mph driver swingspeed (actually couple tenths higher than ZStar XV), while being 1mph lower with the driver. FWIW i was using only the TP5 and ZStar XV as comparatives in the chart; I'm sure variations with other models would be slightly different.

Well i just played a round with the Softflis and they were fantastic. I hit my irons high enough that i didnt lose spin on approach, my chipping around the green could use a little roll as typically i come up short anyways.

The driving however, wow, straight and long. I had three drives that i pushed but they were straight rockets albeit OB lol. The other drives were right down central and I dont think I had one under 240 according to my Garmin. The ones I had under 240 were with a Kirkland that I had to hit cuz of the OB ball.

Now maybe it was the ball, maybe I was touched by the hand of a golf god Saturday and somehow figured out my distance issue. I guess we will see Friday when I play again but these look to be keepers...cheap price too!
