IIRC that was a code for the early Tensei Blue protos per @"MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL" and that is a shaft that would have pre-dated the retail paint scheme that is actually on it by quite a bit. Interesting piece there and a logical switch from the P95 I think.

@"MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL" has confirmed in the forums several times that it's a Pro White 90 TX

Anyone else think he should try a heavier wedge shaft? That part of his game is pure trash for tour standards so wondering if he swapped out those 6.5's for S400's or a KBS shaft he'd be a lot better with his wedges.

If i was him i'd surely be experimenting with some alternative options (if he's not already). I went from S400 TI's in my wedges to KBS 130X shafts and have been throwing darts every since. Maybe he just needs to go to the 7.0's to match the rest of his set

His wedge stats in 2018 were much better than people realize. They were quite good, actually. He regressed in 2019, but his wedge game looked pretty solid at East Lake. It's far more technique related for Rory than equipment related.

If I recall correctly, he said the weights in that position help him turn the ball over easier. He had them in a similar spot on the M3 when he finally got that driver dialed in back during the fall of 2018. With Rory's high positive AoA, he doesn't need a ton of weight forward to keep the spin down.

I think the spy site's driver CG/MOI report showed that the M5 has a very neutral heel-to-toe CG location when the weights are in the draw setting, so that probably explains some of it, as well.

Trash? Definitely not... That said he has most certainly been inconsistent with his wedges. However, during the Tour Championship, he was very good on most of his wedge approaches, though he lost several of his approaches right and long. Although his driving was absurdly long and accurate, it was his short game (approaches, greenside pitching, chips) and putting

that gave him the W.

He was on his "A Game".

Oh that's good to know. All the current "low spin" drivers seem to be more fade biased so him doing this makes perfect sense in being able to turn it over. Assuming a high AOA it all checks out. Maybe that's something I need to do as I want to work towards turning it over more myself.

Uh his ranking just a few weeks ago was literally 199th on tour from 50 to 125 yards.....He's had a great year no doubt, very consistent overall, but definitely under achieved in the majors. Just suggesting if I was him I would maybe try out some different wedge shafts to see if that would help with his misses. So many times I watched him rip a drive 350 yards on a tight fairway and then pull a wedge from 100 yards out into the bunker or hit it over the green.

I don't see anything different on the bottom of his driver from mine. They are both from the Tour department. Maybe I should look at another M5.

Yeah @jll62 is spot on there. The M5 is actually quite fade biased and setting it up like McIlroy does actually makes it dead neutral, which is conducive to working it both ways like he does.

He's been known to swap out the 5-wood for a UDI, and vice versa, depending upon the course.

Am I missing something? Don't most guys go heavier when they go softer in wedges? Wouldn't 6.5 be lighter than the 7.0 in his irons?

It was the WRX podcast with Johnny and Sbarbaro it was mentioned he was going to test the TW blades this fall. Rory also mentioned yesterday on his podcast with Carson that he will be putting a new set of irons in very soon as the grooves are shot on his 8 iron since he's had them in the bag for a whole year. He didn't specify a specific iron but with the chatter it wouldn't be surprising to see him in the TW blades by the start of 2020.
