Utility Iron Shaft Recommendation

Hi all,

 

Looking for some wisdom from you... I got a really great deal recently on a new Srixon U85 2iron (18*) on eBay. The shaft it came with was a Recoil 95 F5 (X-flex). Using it as a fairway finder off the tee if my driver is not "on".

 

Problem is, I am a very fast swinger and this shaft is flying the ball way higher than I hoped. So, I'm looking to get it re-shafted to bring the ball flight/spin down.

 

What are some good options in the 110(ish) gram range, that might accomplish this? Something stout. I was thinking graphite but maybe steel as well? Also, don't want to spend a bunch of money if I can avoid it.

 

I was looking at the Steelfiber i110 X which seems like a decent option but I don't know much about it and have never swung it.

That weight range starts to be a crossover point between steel and graphite with steel having a bit of the advantage there. It would be good to find out if it is weight or shaft profile that is causing your issue though. Generally I would say that the Recoils are not the lowest launching shafts in that they are "flighted", but that means hardstepping them can work. The older Fujikura Rombax i115 shafts could be a good bet too, although they are a pain to find. The Fujikura Pro 115 would be the modern equivalent, also not the easiest to find though. The Tensei Pro White and Orange hybrids can be had at 100g as well. In terms of steel, the KBS Hybrid steel shaft in X-flex is 110g so that could work well.

I'm playing a Nippon 120 in my Cobra utility since I view it as an extra iron, so why not put an iron shaft in it.

I've got the 20* U85 and have been playing a DG-Pro X100 in it to great effect.
