Bridgestone J40 Dual Pocket Cavity Irons

Just thought I'd circle back to this thread as I am wrapping up a very successful 4 months of golf (maybe a bit of an understatement, playing the best golf of my life right now) with these fantastic irons. They've beaten out some tests against the before mentioned JPX 900 tours, various Srixons, 718 AP3's and most recently the 718 CB's. They feel so, SO dang good when you pure one. I literally dream about it for days after. If anybody reading this thread is on the fence trying them out just go for it. Still such amazing irons after all these years. They've stayed in the bag for way longer than I thought and I don't see them going anywhere soon. Now if only I can find J40 DPC of drivers....

just put them away in one of the backup bags, but i played and loved them for years. Pushing 49 years old, i was losing too much distance, some of it due to the Steelfibers being too stiff, but its not a hot iron.

Have played the J40 CB with Project X 6.5 for a number of years. Literally just put them in the backup bag this evening as I picked up my set of T100s with 6.0 this afternoon. I don’t think I have the stomach to sell them.

I hear ya 2wash but apparently I don't have a conscience...my buddy just sold me a sweet set of Miura's and although I thought I'd never part with these sticks, I'm going to try and move them. I just hope they find a good home.

Looking for thoughts from folks that have switched from J40 DPC irons. I’ve been playing a set for about 7 years now and want to try something new/comparable. Suggestions appreciated.

I had originally gamed these for a few years. Absolutely loved them. 

Loved the larger head size for some forgiveness and the soft feel of the forged iron. 

 

I went into Srixons since (565, 765) and loved the feel of those forgings as well. 

Recently tried Apex 19, TM P790 and a few others and settled on P790s. 

It would seem I was looking for "players distance" category. 

 

Reason I went with P790 is for the little bit of added distance and face forgiveness for off center strikes. 

They are not "buttery" smooth as a single piece forging, but the launch window, dispersion, decent angle and added distance works for me. 

For me, new irons take a few months to confirm that they are suited for my game and I am into my second month with them....so far, it has been a great decision. 

 

I will say however, nothing beats the feel of a true single piece forging. 

Honestly, I was looking for something similar to the DPCJ40 irons with some of today's tech and forgiveness...which is how I ended up on P790s.

The Apex 19s were close as well - super feel. I am just not a huge Callaway fan....

I've played with J40s for years and years.  They are the best iron ever made in my opinion, and I'd recommend them to anyone at any level.

 

Mine are still great after about five years of heavy use.  Not sure how/when irons get worn out though.  They all have the chrome completely worn off in the face where the ball hits the iron, but I haven't seen a decrease in performance.

If the Bridgestone J40DPC and J15CB had a baby, it would be the New Level 902. One-piece forging. Very sweet.
 

Can always substitute a hollow body for the long iron(s). I would not personally go from a set of fully forged irons to a full set of multi-material hollow bodies. Feel is very different and the hollow heads don’t make any positive difference for me in scoring irons.
