Srixon U85 vs Titleist U-500

Looking to put a 20 degree 3 iron in the bag, these two sit atop my list. I would put a AMT Tour White or DG S300 shaft in them. Can someone please compare the two, pros and cons of each? Any feedback would be great!

I cannot comment on the Titleist, but the ZUBZ (I call it this bc the font looks like it) is the best acquisition I have made in ages. I got it with the standard regular shaft and it is my go to when I just need to put a drive in play. I went with the 20 degree 3. It's sweet spot sits up a little so I would not expect to be hitting this club from anything other than on a tee.

I game the u85 2 iron at 18 degree loft. I have the stock recoil stiff shaft in it and I love it. Off the tee it is a very consistent fairway finder with a surprising amount of distance.

I play mine out of the fairway for going into par fives frequently and I have no problem elevating it. Infact I’m my last round I hit a par five in two with it from 230 that was all carry over water.

Out of the rough it is hit or miss depending on the lie. I can make it happen if the lie is okay but sometimes even then the rough grabs it and it comes out super low.

I love this club and honestly sometimes I think it is easier to hit than my 4 iron. The titleist looks similar in thickness and has more shaft options, but I think you’ll spend a little more for it.

I’ve tried both, and I like the U85 better. The Srixon was just easier to hit. Something about the Titleist and my swing didn’t get along when it came to hitting it. It’s not just off the mats in the golf store. I tried the Titleist at a demo day off the turf, and I couldn’t hit it very well.

From the sizes of each club, the Srixon is more comparable to the u510. I currently game the u85 3i (with stock recoil in x flex) and it’s fantastic off both tee and fairway, but am switching to a u510 3i (with heavier shaft)

I have ordered the u510 1 degree weak because my current u85 goes too far and made my 16.5 fw redundant. I chose the u510 over the u500 for the landing height on par 5s. Hope that helps

I like my u85, don't use it off the tee much but have had success with it off the deck. I ended up dropping my hybrid in place of the u85. I am curious about putting steel x100 in for the heavier weight, anybody have success?

I have an 18* u85 with a DG 105 in it and just got the 17* u500 with the same shaft. I’ve only hit the u500 at the range but first impression would be that it’s a bit less forgiving than the u85, with a smaller profile and thinner sole. The u85 probably sits in between the u500 and u510 if that makes sense.

Curious for those with the u85, is it draw bias? I always felt like the original u45 with stock steel shaft always went left on me.

I find that the u85 doesn’t really want to turn over. I’m a natural draw player and struggle with over drawing my longer irons. I rarely get more than a baby draw out of the u85. Even when I try to get it to turn. I can get it to fade which is a bit unlike my iron swing as well. I’d say if anything, it’s fade biased from my experience. Really it just seems to want to go straight.

Agree with this. Draw/hook everything and U85 is tougher for me to turn over.

curious why you play it with a dg 105 vs your stock dg S400 in your irons, do you have a 2 or 3 u85

I have a 20* U85 with x100 TI. Probably my favorite club in my bag. Goes 240 and straightest club off the tee. I never tried it with graphite so can’t speak to that, but I have no trouble getting it up in the air so it works great for me.

Just got fit for a u510 in the smoke x flex. Anyone have this and use it as a bomber off the tee? I got it in the 3 iron and hit it really well. I'm a blade kinda guy and haven't really thought I would like the chunkier design of the u510 but found it was a little more forgiving and much longer than the u500. It's knocking my 3 wood out of the bag I hope.

Have the 2. Bought it with the stock recoil, but wanted something a bit heavier and felt like a bit lighter shaft vs the 132g DGS400 would help with launch a bit.

Late to this thread. Curious to hear how it went with op. Both are fantastic, but I decided on the u500 because of its smaller profile and shaft option. Loving it off of the tee. Prob my fav club in the bag at the moment.
