Long and forgiving 4 iron

Which 4 iron is long and forgiving without looking too clunky?.

I just got a set of P790's and the 4 iron is a beaut'! Minimal offset and flies! Its pretty forgiving as well without looking chunky

Srixon 5 series, mp h4, hot metal pro, p790, tmb to name a few. I had an mp h5 a couple of years ago that was fun to hit. A little on the chunky side, but forgiving and long and felt great!

My vote is for the Hot metal pro......i think the new callaway epic forged will be a winner too !

Mizzy MP18 MMC Fli-Hi or the JPX 919 Forged. Also find the Ping i200 easy to hit. I prefer irons that are a part of the set design over utilities, and I will mix brands. Right now the 919 Forged 4 iron is in the bag regardless of the irons I’m gaming. I also switch to lighter steel shafts or graphite shafts at 4 iron and that helps too.

Check out the Titleist T-MBs. They are a better looking version of the p790.

Titleist U500

Absolutely gorgeous. Similar to p790 but I think the feel of U500 is slightly better.

I picked up a srixon 565 4 iron to tryout vs my mp32 4 iron. Ive played a few rounds with it I think it is staying. An easy 565 4 iron goes as far as a hard(max) mp32 for me which I like. The 565 has a nippon 105 S and the mizuno has X100 which is another thing to consider(shaft choice).

I think the 565(or 45/85) might not be the absolute longest 4 iron available, but depending on how much distance youre looking to pick up it could be a good choice. They are also relatively inexpensive.

i will be the first to fly the Cally flag here in this thread, CF16 Apex 4i @ 21* is a rip snorter, paired with the right shaft (for the guy swinging it) is a nice forgiving long iron.

Honorable mention to the old faithful 2015 XR pro 4i for doing almost the same task as Apex but being a little easier on the wallet.

Can't believe nobody has suggested the Callaway X-Forged Utility. Looks like a real long iron but gives tons of help to hit it high and long. Have played it for 2 years now and can't imagine ANYTHING replacing it in my bag - just superb.

Hot Metal Pro all day. 125 bucks, pick your shaft and grip. Awesome as your longest iron. May need to order a 5 iron depending on your lofts

I have the Srizon Z785 as a 4 rather than the Miura MC501. It's really nice but I may look at the new MP20 HMB to see if I can get just a little more height.

Titleist AP3. Topline is thicker than a cavity back forged players iron, but not too much. Solid off the tee and has good launch from Texas hardpan.

I recently bought a Srixon ZU85 2 iron and it is a beast. I'm guessing the 4 iron would be great as well.

Hogan PTx (1st one, not the new Pro). Was worried it couldn't hang with my old 20* UDI, but it blew it away. Long irons are the stars of that set.

My G400 is very easy to hit, and at power spec loft 19*. I get up to 200y out of it off the turf in average conditions, more if the ground is hard, but it’s still plenty high enough launching.

I've played the 790, UDI 4, PXG 0311T and 0311X, and Callaway Apex and Apex UT (OG ones). The 0311T and 790 look the cleanest and least offset while keeping good forgiveness but the 0311T is so much better from the turf for me. I've hit the z545 also which is just stupid easy to hit but it wasn't any better than the 790 or 0311T so I didn't get it.

Totally agree. Head is important, but shaft choice is the key. My 4 iron got a lot longer and easier to hit when I went from the Project X 6.0 (in all my other irons) to the Nippon 105 X. The Nippon is a tad softer and launches higher. Love it!

I've hit every 4 iron (21-24 degree) on the planet the last 6 months (except the ap3) trying to fill the 21 or 22 degree spot in my bag. I recently hit the t200...it's stupid easy to launch, ball rockets off the face, and it flies straight.
