Painted the house inside and out, put on a cedar shake roof, dug an exterior french drain and installed the sump system, remodeled the kitchen and bathroom. He was far from incompetent, but that’s what he always said when someone asked why he didn’t hire someone.

Lodging is right on the beach, and a nice pool for everyone to get wet. Two block walk into town for shopping and the donut shop. This morning, sitting outside with my cup of coffee, taking in the sunrise. And later in the morning walking the breakwall.

That's great news to hear, scotee! WE can both raise a glass with our better halves.

It feels a bit surreal since the day passed as i've been looking for things to fill my day, all the while needing to hang about home as we're having a bathroom renovation done, amongst other things, to correct a few deficencies with the property.

I went up to the course this afternoon to work a tournament as a last minute replacement. I can't recall being at the course in the late afternoon when something wasn't going on and I have to say that maybe the best time of day to be there. It was so tranquil. If I was closer, I would consider playing after 4 pm as standard practice rather than fighting with the masses for a morning tee time.

So we spent a little over a week with friends doing this trip. @scomac2002 I have to say you have some amazing country up there! Impossible to take a bad photo. Sad part, we drove by at least a dozen nice looking golf courses with no play. Our friends don't play. Glad to be home but these scenes will linger for a long time.

Awesome pics Scotster! Brings back 45 year old memories of a similar

trip. Is one of those pics Mt Robson?

We started up on the BC side up through Kamloops, then to Jasper

and down the Icefield HWY to Banff then over to Calgary and then

down back into the states. Some incredible scenery, like you show

in your pics.

The trip was about a month long. I remember there was a raging river

in BC, I think it was the Thompson River? Wow, talk about some rapids

........that river was a gusher.

And, of course the scenery heading down the Icefield Hwy from Jasper

to Banff is breathtaking.

Boy they have some skeeters up there though. Something about the

north...the skeeters grow big and make you bleed sometimes. Cobi

lived in Fairbanks, AK for awhile and she said up there they call them

the state bird, lol.

Thanks for posting all the pics. They are a joy to look at.

I really like late afternoon golf as well Sco. It's a great time to

be out on the course and usually, as you said, less crowded.

Speaking of Canada.............Cobi and I are rewatching Heartland on Netflix.

Season 11 came out recently on Netflix so we decided to rewatch the first

10 seasons. One of our favorite shows. Love the scenery as the ranch is in

the foothills of the Canadian rockies west of Calgary.

Thanks Rad. Yes Mt. Robson. Tallest in the Canadian Rockies 12000+ A few minutes after I took that pic, the clouds covered the top. I guess it's lucky to see it that way. We did it counter clockwise. Crossed above Bonner's Ferry and up to Banff first.

Mrs. scotee and our daughters had been there before but it was the first time for me. Count me impressed!

@scotee , we did the loop from Calgary to Banff, the Columbia Icefield, Jasper, Edmonton and back again about 15 years ago. Your shots from the top of Sulphur Mtn. and of Peyto Lake sure brought back the memories. I don't remember where it was exactly, but I know we stopped at the Hot Spring Hotel to take in the steamy (and stinky) outdoor baths. We were there in July and it was fairly chilly to be outside in a bathing suit. We even got to see the Northern Lights while we were in Jasper.

Most of the route you followed I have never travelled. Maybe some day, but this is a big country with so much to see that it would take a lifetime to see it all. Sadly, I'm running out of time. I've thought in recent times that there's really no need to leave this country to see amazing things and perhaps I should be focuing on that rather than foreign travels.

Sounds a lot like the lake district in Manitoba. The mosquitoes are the size of Robins! In midevil times they would have used those suckers for bloodletting! The locals didn't even notice them meanwhile I was flailing away like a three armed paperhanger! :#

As we are in a non frost area, we can grow tomatoes year round. This winter we have been looking after a large area of tomatoes that seeded themselves from chicken scraps. Watered and showing plenty of fruit that this week was starting to ripen, went out to feed chickens two days ago and all the tomatoes had gone, the local possums had eaten them. Ah well it was a good idea, next time I will build a fence round them.

Wonderful. When I lived in Albuquerque I became addicted to chile rellenos. And when I moved away and found that so-called Mexican restaurants commonly make them with canned poblanos, which are horrid. You might as well make them with spinach. A couple of years ago I was taken to a restaurant in Colorado that seemed pretty authentic so I asked the Hispanic waiter if the rellenos were real. He asked what I meant. I said I was looking for a couple of 10 inch long fresh Anaheim chiles, roasted, stuffed with jack cheese, beer battered and fried crisp, smothered in green chile. “Ah,” he said, “my mother, she makes them like that.”

“Does your cook here make them like that?”

“No.”

“Can I go to YOUR house?”

Also loved the Fiery Foods Show in Albuquerque.

Yes! Once you've had authentic Chile Rellenos, you are spoiled. My pet peeve is how most "Mexican" restaurants make them like omelets. They don't separate the yokes from the whites and beat the whites stiff and add back the yokes with flour and seasonings to make the batter. My mom used to take me to a little place in Redlands Calif. that made them right. I have developed my own recipe for casserole style which is much easier. I make a red tomato gravy Relleno sauce to put on top. Melt in your mouth goodness with a little kick.

Awesome picture scotee, Canada was on our post retirement journey until I had my work accident, then all our cash went on paying bills after the treatment and my superannuation had to be used to pay off the house. Still peeved at missing out and it does not make it any better when you show those pics. Hope you had a fantastic time.

I know where you are coming from because I know you were raised out west---- In my cross country trucking days I learned where the good authentic Mexican places were. I remember there was this little place on I-10 I think in Arizona that was a Mom and Pop type place and they had great authentic Mexican food. We used to stop there all the time we were through there. Another driver turned us on to that place. Another place we loved for the BBQ ribs was the old West T Go truck stop out by Odessa Texas. Even though I was raised in the South and the pepper vinegar type BBQ guy and loved their ribs and brisket. I guess from what all the road drivers tell me now all those old places are gone replaced by fast food places in the Pilot and Loves truck stops

The mom and pop truckstops are slowly becoming extinct as they

cannot compete with the national chains on fuel prices and the

restaurant business is just not enough to keep them open.

Frankly, I am glad to be out of the trucking business. The last truck

I had had a fancy Bendix system in it that tracks how you drive

and warns you if you stray from your lane or get too close to a

vehicle in front of you, etc. It is an obnoxious system that beeps

and sounds alarms, even activates the engine brake and truck

brakes if another vehicle pulls in front of you.

They call it the "Collision Mitigation System"........I call it the "Worse

than a Back Seat Driver System". I hated it and felt it was more

likely to cause a collision than avoid one.

Beware of fancy terms like "Adaptive Cruise Control" if someone

ever wants you to get in one of these new trucks. So glad I'm

retired.

One of my buds drives for another company delivering storage containers--- He has a 2018 Mack Slope nose with all that mess on it. he is old school like me and he says all that mess is about to run him crazy. He also said something about it cuts the AM FM radio off if you get too close to someone. That 2016 I drive is enough for me. Had problems the other week before I went on vacation with the DEF system derated me to 5 MPH. But this time the redneck outwitted the computer. Simply unplugged the speedometer sensor wire and that gave me a second stage derate so I came to the beach at 52MPH but got it home. I figured that part out from reading the book on it. Funny thing is you ought to hear the low wiper fluid alarm. First time it ever went off I thought I had blown the truck up. That thing is louder than the low air buzzer. Oh yes I tried un hooking that thing then it shows a fault code on the screen. Can't win but I did outwit the computer that one time

I guess from what all the road drivers tell me now all those old places are gone replaced by fast food places in the Pilot and Loves truck stops

Unfortunately this is now part of the you cannot think for yourself brigade. All this new technology that is supposed to make life easier and safer conflicts with our natural instincts. Last week we were going somewhere new and the roads are a little up and down so we used our GPS, next right said the man so we took the next right, showed we were on the correct road but it took us to a farm gate with no road ahead it was a dead stop, looked at the GPS map and it definitely showed the road continuing past where we were. Don’t trust the self drive cars, don’t trust anything that takes control out of my hands.

As a youngster I used to spend some school holidays helping a neighbour on his truck, went out with him several times so I can understand your confusion and anger when someone in a government office tells you he knows better when usually they would never have sat in a truck.

Sad part, we drove by at least a dozen nice looking golf courses with no play. Our friends don't play. Glad to be home but these scenes will linger for a long time.

When I was in the towing business here we had a road that cut through from SC HWY 90--- It would show clear to HWY 90 but it was not. About 2 miles down it dropped off into wilderness and a big hole. Despite signs telling you ROAD ENDS you do not know how many stupid tourons we pulled out of that hole. Their standard answer "well the GPS shows it"--- no common sense or any at all. That area at the time was controlled by the wildlife people. We were the only towing company around that would go off road and we also had a Bobcat loader too. We charged a minimun call out fee plus a hourly fee of $150 per hr. We did not try to gouge the insurance companies or the public but it was a job trust me. I have never gotten out of there under 5 hours. But they did not have any choice because we were called by the DNR (wild life officers) as in Police directed tow. Now finally that area has been paved all the way through with a nice road. Also down here during flooding events the Police have to be constantly on the News media warning people not to drive around barricades. In that case it is not really tourons but stupid locals. I can see it with say a jacked up 4X4 but with some folks they think they can drive a Toyota Camary through 4 feet of water. People absolutely can not think for themselves any more. In the USA we have turned into a nation of babbling idiots

I roast/blister these Anaheims and Poblanos on the outdoor grille. Put them in a paper bag to steam and slip the skins and seed them. We stuff them with Jack cheese and shrink wrap on paper plates in the freezer for Chile Rellenos all year long. We make Salsa with the Jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. Wish we could have the garden fresh tomatoes all winter!

On Chile Rellenos and Chiles in general. @scotee, those Rellenos look delicious. May have to give casserole style a go sometime. I agree, it's difficult to find a quality rellenos at a restaurant. We're fortunate, there's a local one that does a pretty good job making an authentic version. Just that their Red sauce is rather weak. To much tomato taste, not enough chile. The great NM debate red or green. I'm partial to a red sauce. But always use green on chicken enchiladas. Have a amalgamation of a couple different recipes I use to make up a batch of sauce. Hard to find fresh green chiles though around here.

@howellhandmade, my brother has lived in Albuquerque for a long time (Rio Rancho). Been there during harvest and roasting time, taking place right about now. Seemingly every corner had roasting drums, the smell of roasted chiles in the air. Quite marvelous. Have played a fair amount of bad golf while visiting him. He lives on Paradise Hills G.C., works there part-time for free golf. Paako Ridge (on the backside of Sandia Mountain) is my second most favorite golf course I've ever played. A stunningly beautiful course winding it's way through the high desert. Ball goes far in the elevation. As I remember it, from some 20 years ago. Really like New Mexico. Perhaps why they call it the "Land of Enchantment".

Much prefer Rellenos made with "Hatch" type chiles. Poblanos can have to much bite for the family's taste. Plus the NuMex type have a better flavor IMHO. But Hatch is a generic name for the multiple different varieties grown in the Hatch Valley. The Anaheim 6-4 is typically the most common. If one is looking for the long 10" variety, those are probably Big Jims (a great chile do to their size and flavor). Don't know if @Scotee is growing his own. NuMex Chiles are easy to grow, realize good yields, even in shorter growing seasons like here in Michigan. if you can grow bell peppers, you can grow NuMex chiles. Pick'em green for rellenos and to make green sauce. Let them ripen to red for making red sauce ('da) and dehydrate them for grinding into powder or storage for future use. A good source for seed is the [Chile Pepper Institute](https://chile.nmsu.edu/seeds "Chile Pepper Institute") at NMSU. Scroll down the list to find the NuMex Heritage Big Jim and Heritage 6-4. The "improved" varieties. The NuMex Sandia are good if you like chiles on the hotter side. Anyone further interested, I have a fair amount of stored seed of different types. Although I don't remember exactly what. Haven't been into the seed bin in awhile. (Unfortunately, I don't do the growing chile pepper thing like I once did.) PM be if interested and I'll look through the stash.

In agreement with a proper Rellenos can **never** be made with canned chiles. The have to be fresh, roasted, deseeded and peeled. Use the same technique as Scotee for making a batter. Egg whites, I mix in some flour and bit of seasoning. Prefer to use queso fresco cheese which has a different taste and texture compared to Monterey Jack (but will use jack as well). Stuff 'em, dip in the batter and fry them up in oil in a cast iron skillet I use for the task. Pretty easy and basic really. Serve them up with a ladling of the aforementioned red sauce.

Making myself hungry. Wish I had the fixings in house to concoct a proper breakfast burrito. Now a good burrito is hard to find at any restaurant around here.

You're right, people cannot think for themselves. They don't want to. Everyone is walking around, with smart phones glued to themselves. Anymore, I dread driving. It's rare to see someone driving who's not using some electronic device.

When i drove my new ATS home from the dealership, I found myself going 55 on a 35 two lane road, not being used to the performance.

The Onstar report later in the month tells me I'm driving the car hard. Probably recorded it for posterity, that I'm a demon on wheels. I'm probably the only guy on Earth that would rather drive a 80 hp Lebaron.

The world is completely nuts.
