ET has paid appearance fees forever but regardless all these guys want to play all 4 rounds. Kuchar has stated he is doubling up the visit as a family trip, think he did the same when he went to Australia for the World Cup and he played another event possibly the AUS Masters or PGA.

Its probably due to the fact that on a Sunday he's made the game look hard, losing the Travelers to Bubba was probably the worst example.

The players getting an appearance fee usually do lots of things off the course with the sponsors, pre-tournament promotion etc. as part of the commitment. The tournament organisers still gets what they deem value for money even if the player doesn't have a great week. You have multiple posts about appearance fees.

Despite the score yesterday and of course Casey will be favourite but I'm still going for Robert MacIntyre to win.

Hey Old Tom; what do you care about how many posts i make about a topic/subject?

Are you in charge of something here?

Or do you think we all should keep quiet about appearance fees lest they cast an unfavorable light on the Euro Tour?

I do believe such fees are forbidden on USA PGA Tour.

End of my comments on this subject.

Just getting involved in the discussion and pointing out a fact plus I started the thread so I'm interested in all posts. In my opinion, appearance fees don't cast positive or negative light on any event its just business. The PGA Tour may prohibit direct appearance fees but they occur indirectly. Look at RBC and the amount of players they sponsor, they all show up at RBC events on the PGA Tour.

After another 2nd placed finish Robert MacIntyre moves him up from #113 to #95 breaking the top 100 for the first time. Bernd Wiesberger now at #35 having been as low as #378 in May, an astonishing rise in a matter of a few months.

I believe he was fighting on two fronts, the tournament and his card. The conservative play off the tee means no eagle chance but it should eliminate bogey (or worse) and he can make a birdie by wedging it in close. I can understand it. The second place moves him up to #117 in the Race To Dubai.

I get it, he played it safe, however I though a German in Germany, he might have wanted to risk it. Mind you it almost backfired when he layed up in the rough! (Ruf in this case?)

MacIntyre is a hell of a player isn't he, can see him in the Top 50 next year.

Yeah don't want to be too critical. It could have been a once in a lifetime chance but he's likely looking at the bigger picture. He did hit a few wayward drives in the final round so I don't think it was too difficult a choice for him given what was at stake beyond the tournament itself.

He's far better than I first thought and watching him closely, as I have in the last few months, its clear to see he will get better. Will be interesting to see how he progresses.

OK, that makes the decision a little more understandable but still pretty weak in my mind. It's not like he was taking some highly risky shot going with driver. But, yeah, the second shot was the total disaster. Lay up and end up in the rough?? Bad.

Laying up in the rough reminds me of Edoardo Molinari against Fowler at Celtic Manor in 2010... terrible shot

MacIntyre and Ritthammer were both a little wild with the driver late. MacIntyre stalled on the last few holes, scrambling to save par, then needing eagle to force a playoff on 18. He barely cleared the water on his approach then left his eagle putt way short. Ritthammer played it safe needing birdie to force a playoff and left his putt way short also. Casey played clutch down the stretch, holing many birdie putts, even a lucky 25 footer.
