Tmb vs u500

Does anyone have a comparison of the two clubs? Feel, distance, forgiveness? I have the 718 tmb 3 iron which I love off the tee. It is a fairway finder and a great club for the tight par fours. I struggle with it off the deck. Was wondering if the little wider sole and extra tungsten helps or if you notice much of difference. Looking to have a little more versatile club in that spot of the bag but I don’t like hybrids

I just posted with a similar question. I’m debating reshafting my T-MB or buying the U500. The U500 3 iron has 4 more grams tungsten and 0.2mm thinner face, which is probably technically better ie more forgiving and faster, but those changes seem so small I kind of doubt significance. I’m hoping someone who has hit both with same shafts can weigh in with actual data.

I haven't hit the u500, but I play T-MBs 3-9i and have the new u510 in 16* 1-iron.

The T-MB 3i is my go to club and has been since I picked it up in 2016. Thing is nuts if you can hit long irons, but the u510 is significantly more forgiving on my misses, and its with much less loft.

It really depends on what you want, the u500 is allegedly more forgiving and faster, and I don't doubt that, but the sole is wider than the T-MBs, and the 716s are the narrowest sole of the two T-MB offerings. Off the tee, I would almost certainly say the u500 will have the advantage (similar to how the u510 for me is easier off the tee than the T-MB 3i), but off the deck it may depend on your swing. I love how my thin 716 T-MB 3i sole just cuts through the turf like a true blade. Nothing can beat that for me. If you want that, the T-MB is probably the better choice, but if you just want to smash long, straight, mid-trajectory bombs off the tee... go try the u500, or even the u510.

Have the u500. Sounds way “pingier” then the tmb. Sounds like more of a hybrid then an iron.

we will see, might go to a tmb instead

looked up the offset : 4.3mm 716 and 18 (tmb) vs 2.2 mm (u500).

imop the u500 looks better , Though I really do not like whatever the stock shaft is

the tmb , which I cam from the u 712 (mine is the 718 ) The face did feel better going to the tmb. besides the putter , tmb is longest tenured club in the bag *** which for members like myself and You all, says a lot, when clubs have some staying power .

I find driving irons in general , with the graphite shafts , feel light ( pxi 6.5 was great in the 712u and tmb) , steel swing weight wise always feels heavier , contemplate going back sometimes

But , it would take a lot for me to move off the tmb , sole is a touch smaller , not sure of the performance vs the u500bc I did not get a long with the stock shaft.

my tmb is so fitted to my swing hard to compare ; tmb 2i GD Ad DI 105x , tipped to 290 cpm , 18* and the most important , to get that TMB to d4/5 sw, so much hot melt was put into it was oozing out of the port

Love the club (Tmb) so much , I’m almost afraid to change , if the house was on fire , dog under one arm , TMB in the other hand.

I still have a 712u 2i w/ pxi 6.5. How does the AD DI 105x compare? I like the lower offset of the u500 but like you im skeptical of the stock shafts.

I felt the stock was so bad it made me dislike the club period , so hard to give it a fair shake and the sw felt LIGHT

biggest diff btw pxi 6.5 and ad di 105 , the pxi off the tee was a MONSTER , the ad di gave the club a more versatility esp off the deck - easier to elevate. Maybe I wasn’t bring the heat enough for steel 2i anymore . Graphite made it More point and shoot. That combo has been in the bag for a couple years if that says anything. The hot melt and tipping to most import factors ; so much hot melt it was crammed in the head , and I think the shaft was tipped 2” , 290 cpm

Like LL Cool J , “don’t call it a come back , I’ve been here for years “

and I had the 712u , the TMB you would like better prob can find a good deal on one .

Kinda want to dig this zombie out to see if anyone has anymore comparisons. I'm currently watching a few U500 auctions on eBay and I think I'm buying this U500 more so to test it out and give it a run. My current TMB is a good club... not the best but good. Anymore stories or comparisons out there?

I normally hate stuff with bigger soles, but the u500 is fine, took me a few swings to get used to it. Very similar to t-mb, slightly longer distance wise (probably due to the slightly longer lighter graphite shaft).

I played the TM UDI for several years and finally changed to the U500 3 iron. I am a reasonably low ball hitter so the 2 iron does nothing for me.. but the PX Black smoke shaft in it gives it a laser flight. Very forgiving head, a little firmer feel than the TMB (from my recollection) but a great club. Easy 220-225 off the deck and can get some 240-250 off the tee with roll.

To me it seems a bit hotter face than the TMB similiar to the UdI.

Thanks TM4L, I like hearing about the hotter face on it. The club is doing 2 things for me as it'll be the 4 iron spot in the bag. It's going to be used off the tee on long Par 3's (205-215) and hitting into Par 5's on my 2nd shot. So I'm looking mostly for Forgiveness from this club when I'm trying to hit those shots. It'll only be a problem for me if it start going 220-225 because then that's leaving too big of a gap and 225 is supposed to be my 7 wood range.
