Mizuno MP-20 - July 2019

They should just do a re-release of MP-14/29 or another classic looking blade to please the purists. This way they have clubs they like and everyone else gets the new tech. Personally I like a bit of heft to a blade, even if it has slightly diminished workability as a result. Gotta remember, they’re still more workable than every cavity back ever released.

I personally did the first option listed. 6 iron is where I start to really need a little help and I really like having narrower soles in the scoring irons.

One of the things that appealed to me most besides the extra launch height of the HMB is the idea that the HMB and MB look similar.

Sticking MMCs in there FOR ME would have to meet a very specific performance parameter(s) I needed but couldn’t achieve with the other two.

If I were gonna do any MMCs I think I’d do the entire set.

Same. I ordered 4-6 HMB and 7-PW Blade. Kept lofts stock but might weaken the HMB's by 1 degree if needed. Both felt great but MB felt fell better through Turf (tested 7 iron). I start to feel like I need help at 5 or 6 iron, so starting the HMB at 6 was a no brainer since it still looks like the MB in the bag and will provide that extra help.

Easier to hit than the AP2s??? Maybe I should have gone with the blades over the HMBs!

For me, yes. Can’t answer why. The HMB’s were silly easy to hit, but distance was an issue.

Tried the T100 and struggled with them which I was most surprised with.

It’s kinda funny but I’ve had better luck over the years with blades over CB irons. I just keep telling myself that I don’t need to be hitting them anymore. I may end up ordering a MMC MB combo set to add to the arsenal ?

These are first blades I’ve hit in a while, but my ball striking had improved a lot since I got the AP2’s.

Was also impressed with Ping i210

I decided to bend the 6 iron 1* weak for now. I didn’t want to adjust anything in the mb. Then go from there if I need to adjust the mmc further. How about you?

I’ve gone 4-PW in MB, but may swap out the 4 and 5 iron in the future if needed to HMB.

Nice! I though about hmb, but I hit a 6 iron 230. Way too hot. Might get a driving iron with 3 iron in the future tho.

I play off a 0 and currently game mp5s, 4-p. I think I'm going HMB 4-7, then 8-p in MB.

Wow, what's your swing/ball speed? What do you normally hit a stock 6i?

For 7 iron I was averaging 98.2. But I’ve been working to tone it down to 94 range. Was hitting the 7 iron between 185-200 with the mb. I think ball speed was 134. 6 iron I was hitting 99-102 ss

Also curious on this. I’m a lefty so I’m left with the SEL option if/when I purchase. Curious how the long iron HMB’s will be good for me so I can get the ugly but useful G400 crossover out of my bag.

Good luck finding a demo head for SEL HMBs. I was told by 2 different Mizuno retailers that my best bet would be on a Mizuno demo day. You might have do a blind buy or hope a Golf Galaxy type store has one in stock.

I agree, will be a challenge. I happen to live in a smaller town with one golf shop. Fortunately they had a blade head to try out, which felt incredible with the $-taper shaft. Will make a trip to the big city (Denver) soon to see if I can have better luck. Can’t wait to get these in the bag!

Coming soon I’m sure and I also look forward to a comparison. My personal (very limited) experience is that they were a huge improvement, though that could be driven by the fact I tested several shafts and found a great combo in the MP20/ $-taper.

I can do a bit of a comparison if I get time. I really like the $ taper as well.

After doing some personal testing of the mp20 vs. The 18s. I find them very very similar. I hit them both the same shafts. I tried DG x100s, s taper x flex and c taper lights I. X flex. The numbers were identical. Launch spin, everything. The 18s I feel have slightly sharper lines, where as the 20s are bit chubbier to my eye. They still look good but I think the edges are just a touch softer. I know that the have added thickness in the top of the club on the 20s to try and keep the ball flight down some. From what I tried the numbers are the same. But I would have to check if the adjustment is something just in the short irons. I just tried 7 iron s. I really could not tell much difference in feel. I guess I would say the 20s are softer but mizzys have always been soft so..

Haven’t gotten a shipping notification still waiting. Anyone else bending the blades weak to add a bit of bounce, decrease offset and increase launch (coming from CBs)?
