My annual Wisconsin trip is set

Every year I do a 4 person golf trip, usually to Wisconsin. 1 buddy from South bend and 2 from Orlando. Same 2v2 teams every year with a trophy. Play for meals after every round as well. Here is this year's itinerary....

Wednesday 9/4: Drive up from South Bend and Chicago, pick up friend at Milwaukee airport. Afternoon round at Brown Deer. Dinner in Milwaukee and then pick up last friend at airport. Drive to Wisconsin Rapids.

Thursday 9/5: Sand Valley 8:20, Sandbox 2:18. Drive to Stevens Point for overnight stay.

Friday 9/6: 8:00 first tee time of the day at Sentry World. 2:45 tee time for 27 hole scramble at Mascoutin.

Saturday 9/7: 6:40 tee time at Lawsonia Woodlands, 12:20 tee time at Lawsonia Links followed by continuous play on the Links till sundown.

Sunday 9/8: 9:30 tee time at Washington County on the way to the airport.

We were gonna do U Ridge on Sunday, but it's closed for a college event.

Hey if it was up to me we would just stay in Green Lake and play Lawsonia every day, but my buddies like a little variety. We do always plan for one full day at the Shrine and, being a member, they give my buddies a really sweet deal on the play all day plan.

But we will get in more than 2 rounds at The Holy Shrine...one year we got in 54 holes.

That was a classic post...

Got back from my trip yesterday. Had possibly the best weather of the year, every day was beautiful and high 60s to low 70s. Played more golf than I thought was humanly possible.

Sand Valley and Sand box last Thursday. Loved it. Sand Valley was very nice, everyone there went out of their way to be friendly. Caddies were great. Loved the course. It was very hard around the greens in that balls seemed to run off into trouble all the time, but wide open off the tee with very little rough to speak of. Conditions were great. Sand sand everywhere, even in the green side bunkers!

Sand box was a joy to play. Only played it once, not sure if it is unlimited play or not, but it should be. You could play that course 5x in a row and make it a different experience every time. Ran into one group who was stuck on the 9th hole doing a tie breaker playoff that had gone on for about an hour. And what was the bet over? A single beer LOL. They got to the point where they were playing the hole with only drivers which was really cool to see. Only complaint about he sand box was the second to last hole which was about 60 yards longer than any other hole on the course. Unnecessary and caused us to carry more clubs in our pencil bag than necessary.

Next day we had the first tee time at Sentry World. My first time there in 35 years. Place is really nice, perfect condition and once again the nicest people you could imagine. We got around in 3.5 hours.

Then we headed to Mascoutin and played all 27 holes.

Next day was our marathon day at Lawsonia. Teed off on the Woods at 6:50, played in 3 hours. Then a 12:20 tee time on the Links and we just kept going till sundown. Ended up getting in 52 holes and driving back to the clubhouse in total darkness! Would've finished but we camped out on #15 for 20 minutes pounding shots with the cart girl and then letting her hit about 5 junk balls off the tee.

Yesterday we headed to Washington County on the way to the airport. Been playing it for years. hate to say it, but probably won't go back. Greens were pretty torn up. Not in the kind of shape we are used to seeing out there. Looked like a stampede of cattle ran through some of them.

Overall great trip. We made the best out of it with our one buddy unable to attend. I was very surprised and happy that my back held up. i was in pain the entire time, but able to deal with it. Only round where it really got me was the early morning round at Sentry World after walking all day the day before at Sand Valley. Every shot was fat and ended with a 98. But, back loosened up in the afternoon and finished the final 9 holes of that 45 hole day by going under par -1 for the first time ever for a 9 hole round. That was on the Blue 9 at Mascoutin.

150 holes of golf in 4 days, not bad for a guy with 7 back surgeries. I even managed to get 7 birdies along the way. And I held my own in the 3 man skins game vs my better playing buddies. $1 skin + $5 birdies and after 150 holes I owed one guy $29 and the other guy $2.

Great trip, next year were gunning for Scotland.
