Same with the Eye2 irons (both steel and BeCu), other than weaker lofts, which I use every few years when I visit my parents.

I have the Mizuno White Fang graphite woods.

While they're a great vintage wood to play, the smaller size means that you can't swing out your shoes at them like you can with the big-head modern drivers so I don't think they (or for that matter **any** older sized driver) can cut the mustard with modern stuff.

I shall add in a couple....RAC Lt version one. R7TP...looking at a used set for Winter play. Ping B60. Hogan FTX.

Ammo wise I loved the Strata Ace and Titleist Professional.

And whatever happened to luxurious double mercerised shirts? No matter what make these coolmax shirts look scream sportswear from a mile off.

I am fond of Wilson JP wedges----- LOL on another golf site that will remain anonymous ( rhymes with pie) I mentioned JP wedges. Someone informed me that they did not make JAMES PATRICK wedges then. I informed them about Joe Phillips and Wilson

My wife has a smaller older Mizuno graphite driver. She saw it over at our shop and wanted it because it is "pretty and blue". It has a ladies graphite shaft in it and is very short because she is only 4ft 11. I have actually hit it . Back when I could swing I could hit a little high 190 yard draw off a tee with it. We were out playing one day and she wanted me to hit one off the ladies tee with her driver so I obliged. Liked it so much I hit 3 tee balls with it that day. And yes it got put in the bag for some events where I needed that distance on tight par 4s and one course where there was a long par 3. I actually won a side skins pot with that club off that par 3.

Gotta agree with you there old buddy--- A while back I found a dirty Zing LW on the pile at work. Liked the sole grind and the way it sat. Took it home and cleaned it up that thing was pristine. Put it in the bag. All I can say is that thing works for any kind of lie in any trap and any kind of sand. The only drawback is it does not work well for me off a fairway lie. However I do like it on a shot I call a chop pop in this thick dormant Bermuda grass we have here this time of year. Trust me it looks pretty dammed odd in a bag full of Macgregor blades but it is there. I have been playing it about 6 weeks now and have had 2 blast ins from traps and quite a few par saves. I will say it is fugly but it performs

and even then, who cares what the USGA says? As someone who just plays for fun, I'll probably still keep playing them.

Good morning fellas,

I really enjoy reading these threads. A testament to the great manufacturing days of the past.

I wanted to chime in with some forgotten clubs that have recently resurfaced in my bag and my playing partner's bags.

I played with a gentlemen recently who was a retired high school teacher. He played from the forward tees but it was simply divine watching him score and shoot an incredible 78 on a half decent albeit aerated greens.

In his bag:

Irons: Accuform PTMS 2-PW- these are stainless steel blades, made in Canada by former aeronautical engineers who once did the testing of the square grooves for Karsten Solheim during the "groovy days".

wedges: Ram Tom Watson tour grinds

Woods: Cally Steelhead Plus/III

Putter: Spalding TPM

I was so impressed with his iron accuracy that I needed to try these fabled irons. Picked up a set from local buy sell up here in Canada. Incredibly balanced and soft for a blade. Took off some of the original shafts and discovered that they all had lead weights on the tips.

Pics to come.

The Maruman conductors are the best blade ever created.

I feel exactly the same way---- I do not play comp anymore or keep a stipulated handicap--- And none of the groups I play in give 2 hoots either what someone plays--- I play what I darn well please

I have 3 sets, the baggers are sidelined right now due to epoxy breakdown, I have a mint set of CS-1's with shafts that do not fit me and a set of heads that are tour issue CX-41's. I have averaged play of 15 rounds a year for last four. Shot a personal best, gross 78 with baggers, hit 14 greens that day this Spring. Maruman's of that vintage are ridiculously good.

I still use a Callaway 20° heavenwood with the stock Uniflex steel shaft that I bought brand new in 2006. Tried many other hybrids since but nothing comes close to this club in terms of flexibility and consistency. For bump and run shots from just off the green alone it is worth it's weight in gold.

I also have a Ping Eye2 becu 4 iron that sometimes makes the bag - fantastic club, I used a full set of steel Eye2s for many years.

Those clubs allow him to work the ball better than any other set he has. Its just amazing to see the difference.

The game changing BB driver with memphis 10 shaft, half cord grip (early 1990s?). For average Joe this meant 10%+ more distance, especially with off center hits. The orignal TM Pittsburgh persimmon were no real improvement IMHO except hitting it off the fairway. Callaway really revolutionized the driver market. Happy to return to that size head, no need for today's softball size dirvers.
