Did I buy a fake x12?

So a few weeks ago I was at a established local golf shop and they had an x12 for a great deal so I bought it. Ordered heavier weights for it and noticed the existing 15’s were hollow! I weighed them and they are 8g each! I have compared this side by side to real 15g weights and the font is different also. The putter looks spot on though but I then found x12’s on that stupid Chinese fake site. What do you think?

Yes they do. You’re looking at a CG image in your linked image. With that said if you don’t know what you’re talking about then stay out of the conversation.

This is mine the sole film makes it pronounced but under it, the milling is less evident when removed.

You’re looking at compressed image quality with WRX and higher resolution with PIG and lighting. The lighting needs to be right for milling to show clearly.

Right. I should have been clearer. The issue is interesting because unless you take really high quality pics, it looks like there are no milling marks. Basically, I get why it's confusing, and why it's tough to tell from the pics OP provided.

I compared mine side by side to a brand new one in a pro shop and mine looks identical to it. They both have very fine mill marks on the bottom you need to look close to see. The only thing throwing me is the weights. The fact mine is a 34” with sticker on it and those come with 15g weights. So why would a person buy after market weights supposedly the same weight? I’m also not ruling out it’s the best fake ever either or that Cameron’s quality control slipped and they just made a crappy set of weights. I really don’t know? Unfortunately it’s dark out so I can’t get a pic good enough to show the milling.

Why not call Cameron and email pics.

The weirdest thing to me is the drilling under the weight ports. That speaks to me like someone trying to lose weight and leave it looking stock. I’d say it’s real with aftermarket work.

Agreed. Maybe someone pulled the factory weights to sell and replaced it with aftermarket cheap weights?> @bladehunter said:

  • 2 weeks later...

I was looking at one too on ebay and did a bunch of looking and asking around on some other groups on facebook about scottys gears and everywhere I read the X12 was to new to be faked.... Maybe you just got fake weight but a legit x12?

Hey OP, did you ever get in touch with Scotty Cameron/Titleist about this? Did you go through the store at which you bought it? I'm curious about how this was resolved and why the weights were fake if the putter itself is real. Thanks in advance for the update.

I bought a fake tour rat a while back (on accident obviously) and went through the whole process with Titleist and Paypal so i would some i know a ton about the process. They won't verify anything unless it's in their possession, not even comment. I held this up to a new in plastic x12 at a local pro shop and they are spot on identical. i think someone must have been screwing around with weights and had some extra 15s and put those in it because the 15's were definitely off. Not a big deal as i like the 20g anyway but i'm selling this and a few others on BST just now ironically.

Sounds good. Thanks for the update and sorry it didn't work out for you. Have a great day.
