I did this for this season as well, and it’s the best golf decision I’ve made in a while. I replaced my 3H with a 5W because I’ve never really gotten along well with hybrids and I hit my 3W better than any other club in my bag. It seems so simple now I’m kicking myself for not doing it years ago.

Light rough should be no issue. The head is larger so it might grab a little more grass in thick rough, but the launch should be higher than a comparable hybrid.

Here is my new 5 wood.

Ping g410 5 wood in a Ping tour 75 Regular shaft.

I play a stiff shaft in my irons and driver but i made better contact with a regular as per the ping fitter. I will test it out this weekend

Not trying to be "that guy," but man you guys are some great golfers! Always in the fairway and never or hardly in the rough. So much so, that you see no benefit from a hybrid over a fairway wood. I wish I was that good. I have to stick with my Hybrid from the rough.

Fairways are quite versatile out of the rough and better for many than hybrids. Strange point you’re trying to make...

5-woods are great. The only reason I don't have one in my bag is that modern 5-woods go too far (I find that they carry in the air nearly as far as a 3-wood).

For that reason I carry a 19* hybrid, which for me carries about 15 yards shorter than a 5-wood .

My carry distances are roughly as follows:

Driver 250

3-wood 235 off a tee 225 off the ground

19* hybrid 215 off a tee, 205 from the ground.

Well i brought the ping g410 5 wood to the driving range. Once i got into a groove the ball was jumping off the club face. All shots were hit off the ground. guessing carry 215 220. Ball flight was great playing straight shots and fades. I adjust the loft down a degree to 16.5 but didnt like it. So on sunday at the course course i had difficulty finding a groove(golfwrx pressure). I just had to put a smooth swing. So on the back 9 Par 4 370 my 5 wood went 220 with a slight fade(hit the ground first). Another par 4 270 i hit a draw and my shot went 245. Hope to have more info in the coming weeks. Good 5 wood

Never carried/mess with a 5 wood, didn't need it when I was smokin' a 1 iron 260 in my prime. NOW at at age 59, I'm loving my 20 degree 5 wood which is good for 215 carry!
