Reed is only the 4th American player awarded that honor. The other three are Arnold, Jack and Tom. No Tiger. No Phil. To say that Reed's accomlishments are quite thin to have that honor is stating the obvious. I guess Reed losing to Kristoffer Broberg in the 2015 BMW Masters made him eligible for the honor.

I found that very odd, as well. I would guess it had more to do with the fact that he generally made an effort to go and play over there this time of year, and did his best to compete in enough events to maybe make the Race to Dubai, but I actually have no idea.

Two letters: PR! (Public Relations)

Undeserved at the time and proving irrational since then.

Let's say an American golfer who's 9th in the rankings wins the Scottish Open gets 0 Ryder Cup points, while another American golfer who's 10th in points wins the John Deere Classic gets a whole lot of them. That doesn't make any sense to me because the Scottish Open has a better field the the JDC.

Do previous year's major winners pretty much always make the Ryder Cup team the next year? Seems that Tiger might make the 2020 team on points, no?

No, Gary Woodland and Tiger didn't even make the Presidents Cup team this year (And shane lowry didn't make it to East Lake along with Tiger). I think it just goes to show how much team event qualification and the Fedex Cup undervalue majors.

It gives you a small advantage, but it is no guarantee. 2020 regular PGA Tour events will get you the same Ryder Cup points 1/ $1000 as the 2019 majors. Major winners win 2020 will see the points values double. So doing well in the 2020 majors will give you real advantage to making the team.

US 2020 Ryder Cup qualifying rules here....https://www.rydercup.com/news-media/usa/how-players-will-qualify-2020-us-ryder-cup-team

Back in the day, winning that year's US Open and PGA got you an automatic spot on the team.

All three will receive a good welcome and appreciation for their visit and their play. Reed is a somewhat controversial figure but he can really play and the Wentworth galleries will respond to him according to his demeanour and his play.

never really thought about it, but yeah, they should get _some_ points for winning any tournament ... you want the best pga professional, regardless of where they play, it would seem ...
