The result of them speeding up was a complete disintegration of their game which made us laugh harder.

We have been known to do that at my home course especially to some of the asinine tourist groups. Had one group complain to the ranger who told them "Those are full time resident members and they can do what they want to". I really love it when doing my walking rounds. Sometimes you will see them rushing on a "emergency 9" before having to rush momma and the kids to the seafood buffet and ride park. I have had them say we will get out of the way. Ok I tell them no problem I am a member here and play as much as I want to. Ticks them off. What is also funny on my walking rounds I only carry 8 clubs or less usually classic stuff. I have had some remark that I don't carry many clubs. They do not have a clue.

Sometimes it happens opposite---- Had a group complain one time ( typical tourists) that we were up their butt the whole time. We were not at my home course but I knew the ranger. We were on #10 and he told us what they said tongue in cheek. I told him well that is easy to sorta play fast when everyone in the group is around even par or a couple over. We really were not rushing because the course was crowded. I made my remark where the group could hear me too.

Our course is open to the public and some weekends we have social golf groups book for anything up to 30 players, these are usually the dregs of humanity and have absolutely no respect for the course or golf etiquette. One day we were following them and there were dozens of beer cans and bottles all over the fairways, even though we have dozens of rubbish bins throughout the course, I contacted the pro shop and they were warned, several holes later they were escorted off the course. This has happened several times and now there are quite a number of social golf clubs on the banned list. Our best behaved social clubs are the seniors clubs and we have several of these play midweek games, always good pace and call through as required.

Perhaps it's a matter of when we play. During the weekday mornings. Amongst the more "senior" (by and large) golfers. Rarely encounter slow play or boorish behavior. No one is "boozing" in the morning hour (appx. 8:30 +/-). After a couple of holes, everyone settles in to an acceptable pace given the numbers out. Typically getting around in 3.30 - 3.45 hours, which seems just about right for us. Plus we slog around as a group of average hacks, amongst other average hacks, that by and large know to hack quickly. There is this myth that the high(er) handicap golfer doesn't know how to play with pace, because we take to many swings. If you play with us, you'd better be ready to go. (Wont repeat all the things we do to speed things along. They've been oft repeated and common sense things. Starting with just hit the damn ball.) I get irritated with those who think (post) that it's their manifest destiny to play golf in 2:30 hours. On a public golf course. Amongst the unwashed.

Then again, it's been awhile since I've played on the weekend. The last, earlier this summer, was a 5 hour slog at a relatively high end course. Not being at all accustomed to such a POY, totally messed up my head and game. If this was the norm every time I played, likely wouldn't.

Speaking of playing and weather. Wednesday past, the temps during the second 9 were around 90*. With high humidity and nary a whiff of breeze. Was quite stifling. Began to become a bit gassed by the 16th hole. Amongst the group, we commented that it was perhaps the hottest feeling day we played in all year. Us older, northern birds are not that accustomed to playing in those temps and humidity levels. Then the next day, the high was 65*. Par for the course in Michigan and as we transition between seasons. When it gets into the mid-90's, I'm staying in A/C for the entire day.

The upcoming forecast for next week is outstanding. Sunny skies, temps in the mid-70's. Perhaps, the last hurrah for a extended period of perfect golfing weather. We're beginning to see some color in the trees with regularity now. So scheduled to take full advantage of it. Monday with some old college chums, Wednesday with the usual suspects, Thursday with another group. May even try to get in a late Tuesday solo 9 with the classic bag of persimmon and blade. Fall means breaking out the old stuff for some reason.

Ready to hit 'em till I drop. My recuperative period after a round is still quite good. Aided by a couple of ibuprofens and a good night's sleep. Plus I'm currently at max golf shape. The muscles are limber, the back is flexible, the mind is right. Been playing half way decently, so the anticipation level is high. Getting my licks in while I still can.

For all the Grillers experiencing post hurricane heat and humidity, I am not.

We arrived yesterday in Vancouver to a week's worth of cool wet weather. Just what you'd expect from the PNW. We're sailing tomorrow for Alaska to tick one off the bucket list. The weather isn't going to be great, but we're suitably equipped to deal with it. I said to DW that this is the acclimation period for us for what lies ahead. I'll touch base again on the flip side.

When son was playing we always did the Saturday comp and the other playing time was Sunday PM around 3 when the Sunday competition was finished. These were the bad rounds, the Saturday game put us in contact with the wannabe tour players, off 25+ and still thinking they had a chance of being club champs, the Sunday rounds were the straight from the pub brigade, loud, and usually fairly peed out of their brain. When I started my Mon and Friday games it was another world, we started playing 9 with son before his work day, teed off around 5am, back home before 6.30. I started my 7.00 start after meeting someone on the first tee and suggesting we go round together, built up a good group about the same age and had some memorable days on the course. Unfortunately now all that has gone for me and I am trying to get back on board, played once weeks ago, hoping to play again if my cortisone injection works, we shall see.

Well all I can say is thank The Lord above for college football season. This morning they were booked solid and double teeing. After 11: 30 zilch. Bear and myself booked a 12:00 time. Played leisurely for us and took 3 hours flat to get in 18---- Even if we have all the NY boys if no one holds us up it may be around 3 1/2 hours. We do play ready golf. Saw one other person the whole time and he was a single and flying. We let him through and he said he was only playing 9 that he was watching some football game at 2:00. We told him play on and have fun. Since it was a home game for me I was home in less than 10 minutes no traffic most of the locals were jammed in the Sports Bars watching College Football and most of the tourism has died down for now

Different type of night tonight, we decided after going to bed that a drink of wine would be good, so we opened a new bottle and 20 mins later it was empty. We talked about all sorts of things, our start as a couple, pleasures, regrets etc. suffice to say sleep came on easy afterwards.

I sit here thinking just how lucky I an having met the most amazing woman ever and persuading her to marry me.

Well, according to the weatherman we have 3 very hot days left

and then Thursday the temps will finally start to moderate with

highs in the mid 80s and lows in the low 60s.....yay, I'm burned

out and ready for the season to change.

Won't be long until I'm whining about the cold.....and y'all up

north will be snickering about the "cold" weather we have

down here.

Congrats to 20 year old Joaquin Niemann on his 6 shot win at

Tons to catch up on. You guys have been busy.

Wriggs I am loving our dried out hard fairways. I am ALMOST getting your kind of numbers !

When I can see the ball bounce as it hits the turf, thats a good thing !

Glad to hear everyone made it thru the storms. As hot as it is in southern Ohio, I am still amazed at the trees turning colors. The cherry and Buckeye are yellow and red about halfway ,and the Hickory are fading. Lots of Maples have splotches of red and it just seems strange

with as warm as it is.. I think we are in for a long cold winter. The trees are loaded with acorns, walnuts, hickory, and the bushy tailed rats are really loading up their homes !

Nothing new on the golf page. Still using the One length and loving them. Driver is about

a 50/50 club..lol.putter is not to be discussed !

And, the BROWNS are playing tonight. Tonight will determine the issue of changing theirname from Browns to Brownies. The fans aren't too happy. And the Bengals got booed offthe field by their fans. That hasn't happened before. And of course one of the elite arrogant players had to mouth off against the booing and that guy will have a rough way to go the rest of the home games ! And the bully Buckeyes let Cincinnati know that they are on a different level.

Still cant say how good they are. Wait until they get away from the Rating booster games.

Fella's school may well be their first good test

Our banana crop is now ready to pick, unfortunately the rain stayed away and they do not grow very well without it. The variety is called lady fingers, I think it is only grown in Australia and is very sweet compared to the normal cavendish banana. Picture of a home grown lady finger banana.

You just cant make everyone happy. Was listening to the Cleveland " Browns Nation" after the game and the whole thing was not the win,but how bad the Jets were. They do not expect more than 4 wins for the Browns this year. Man, I dont think they are THAT bad !

I haven't been paying attention to the NFL so it was hard

for me to tell if the Jets were terrible offensively or the Browns

were playing some great defense.

The Browns have some good talent and it seems to me they

are legit and will continue to get better as the season moves

along and things start to gel.

I remember when I was a San Diego Chargers fan back in '92,

I think, when they lost their first 5 games, then won 11 in a row,

then beat Miami and Pittsburgh in the playoffs.....and then got

clocked by the 49ers in the Superbowl.

When they were 0 and 5 no one in their right mind thought

they'd make it to the Superbowl that year............but sh**

happens! LMAO.

Had my cortisone shoulder treatment yesterday, the short term pain killer is working, waiting for the other one to kick in which should be around Sunday. One problem is I have a badly torn tendon which is damaged near the injection site, this causes a leakage of cortisone into the joint from the joint fluid sac which could cause a bad infection, that if it is going to happen will be within a week. If the pain management continues as it has started I should be playing golf soon.

Sciatica is pest condition, when it’s there it can be debilitating. DW gets it some mornings and literally cannot get out of bed, two minutes walking around and it goes.

Take care Wriggs, enjoy golf whilst you can.

American football used to be sent on one of the bigger cable channes over here too. But not this year. My son played in the local junior team here, so we all got a little interested in NFL. My daughter got most hooked of us for some reason, she is resenting that we get no TV coverage over here now. Guess there are some feeds or stuff like that, she’ll probably find one.
