Shirts tucked or untucked when playing?

I usually show up to the course tucked, then I start looking around and see everyone else untucked, i'm a follower so I usually untuck it before we get to the first tee.

My shirt has a mind of its own, it untucks itself!

I always tuck my shirt in for two reasons: 1.) When it's untucked, due to the length of the shirt, it will interfere with my grip/swing. 2.) I usually have a nice belt buckle that deserves to see the sun.

 

However, if I'm going to the range, or playing a super casual round at laid back course, I will occasionally wear a golf or performance t-shirt, which I never tuck in.

Belt buckles were big when I was in high school, so maybe they're just holding on for the next fashion cycle

Playing Brentwood CC in Los Angeles...shirt had come untucked by the third hole. Manager comes by and informs our host that my shirt needed to get tucked in...apparently some member sitting 200 yards away on the patio had witnessed my transgression.

 

The ironic thing is that shirts are allowed to be untucked in the clubhouse...including the dining room.

 

Go figure!

This is the correct response. I play local public courses in SoCal and with it being as hot as it is most of the year tucked just feels way too stiff. Now when I start to play nicer semi-private courses I will tuck my shirt in.

There's a time and a place for both tucked and untucked. Sometimes I wonder who the posters are in these forms and I've got to believe it's a collage of all levels of golfers. Some play at private clubs, some are Weekend Warriors at Municipal courses. I couldn't expect all levels of golfers from different settings to abide by the same golf code of ethics or dress. It pretty much is common sense that if you're playing at a private club or an upscale Club you keep your collared golf shirt tucked in. If you're playing at a municipal course whether it be weekday or weekend they don't really care so people do what they want. Both situations are ok.

I generally play tucked but it’s mainly just because I carry my gall marker, tees, and phone (use a GPS app) in my pockets and tucked makes it much easier for me since I use my pockets a lot.

 

I couldn’t care less about someone playing untucked. I think a lot of traditional golf rules need to back off some. Make the game more accessible. We’re all just trying to have fun.

I wonder if there is a type of shirt that could be manufactured, similar to golf cold weather sweaters that would look great and be accepted throughout the industry.?

While I'll admit I do play most all of my golf at a private with a dress code..... What exactly makes the game more accessible by allowing untucked shirts?

It's odd. My workplace is an office for a blue collar based company and we all wear golf shirts and jeans untucked, but when I get to the golf course I feel like I'm supposed to tuck my shirt in.
