Walkable courses in Austin

Can anyone give me advice on the best private or semi-private clubs in Austin that are walkable?

Man. Austin’s got some really good public courses that are walkable. What part of the city are you in?

A little more input on what you are looking for is needed to give good recommendations. You moving here and looking to join or just a visit and looking for a one time hookup?

That being said you have Star Ranch, Forest Creek and ShadowGlen are all very walkable and semi-private.

Balcones Country Club is walkable - not the best private club in Austin. Austin Country Club is walkable but expensive and I hear they have a waiting list. Cimarron hills is walkable, private and reasonably priced. Don't know if they allow members to walk but the course is fine for walking.

It depends on what you consider walkable. Avery Ranch is walkable if you don't mind a 4 or 500 yard walk under the freeway between 9/10 and back between 17/18.

As Nod says, the muni's are very walkable but not private or semi-private.

Thanks guys. About to retire from DC area, 9 USGA index and belong to a solid unpretentious blue collar country club here, 134 slope and walkable. Daughter lives in Austin so considering moving there and looking for similar club experience or group who play munis. Any more advice will be greatly appreciated!!

I've been in Austin for less than a year and the walkable options are not great from what I've found. All of the munis are very walkable and decent courses, but the conditions have been really rough this summer (not sure how typical it is). Most of the nicer courses seem to be through housing developments, which kind of sucks. I don't know too much about the privates, but many also seem to be your typical southwest cart course.

 

I'm not sure how Onion Creek or the Barton club courses are for walking? West of the city (where all the money is) is quite hilly so the courses are built that way by necessity it seems, unfortunately.

Onion creek is walkable and pretty laid back, but sort of out of the way.

 

I’ve only played one of the Barton creek courses and it was definitely not walkable. I suspect same is true of all of them as they wind through the neighborhood.

 

Not sure how walkable great hills is, but might be an option.

 

I’d second Star Ranch as a walkable semi-private. I did a year membership out there and enjoyed it. Pace of play on the weekends can be painful because the layout on the back 9 basically guarantees back ups.

 

Twin Creeks is reasonably priced, but the front 9 is a brutal walk.
