I picked up a few dozen v6 trial packs back in late august ;)

Played with the ball today.

WOW! This ball is excellent. Long off the tee. It spun well but the greens were also aerated. Little firm off the putter but not over the top. I like these a lot more than the Bridgestone Tour X. The price is great as well.

Shot 73. Need a few more rounds but this could be my new ball going forward.

Ok. First, I love the ball. Best value in golf with the BOGO. But, kind of a big issue with the XV that I never had with the regular Z Star. I played this model throughout our weekend long tournament. Hit a pitch shot that sounded weird. Checked the ball after the hole and saw a crack in the cover. It's too long to be a bite mark from a wedge. The ball was just taken out on that tee box and didn't touch a tree or a path.

Didn't think anything of it. Put it back in the bag and pulled a different one out. Checked that ball after a hole or two to see that it was also cracked. Through the course of 45 holes over the weekend, I ended up with 4 cracked balls. Can't say that the cracks cost me any shots or anything. Don't know how deep they are. But, even though it was a great deal at $20/dozen, I don't have much trust in them right now.

I've played the xv off and on through a couple generations as well as the regular Z Star and have never seen this happen.

Am I the only one seeing any issues?

Woah. I’ve played XVs for a decade now and never seen any cracks. I do notice that the seem becomes visible after a good chunk of holes (18), but even then I don’t think it would affect performance.

Did these come out of the same sleeve or dozen? I wonder if it was an unlucky batch. I also play the yellow ones which have always seemed to be durable.

Yes!!! It is even much more visible right out of the box on the yellow ones. I bought 4 dozen yellow and 4 dozen white during the BOGO deal. I noticed it on the yellow ones right out of the box.

I decided to bring them all back and when I returned the yellow ones to PGA Superstore, when I told the kid why I was returning them he said “dang I knew this was going to be an issue”! Turns out he bought some too and noticed the seam issue right away and just returned them next day to the store he works at.

Its a shame, I think the ball has good properties, but with the seam issue these balls are just unplayable for me.

The last generation did not have as prevalent of an issue with the seam showing however this new generation with SERM Spin skin definitely does. I can usually get about 6-9 holes before the seam is super visible much like yours, however I don’t think it impacts my playability.

I may consider switching to another ball next season because of the durability (the reason why I moved from tp5) but the price is just so good at $20/doz

The one with the longer line in it was in play for a few holes before I noticed it. The other one with the smaller (but deeper looking) crack was the first time I saw it. That one looks deep enough to cause some problems as it grows. The regular Z Star I was playing is the previous generation now that I think of it. So, if it wasn't a problem then, it would make sense that I didn't notice this until now.

It's really too bad. I love everything about this ball too. Thought I found a permanent gamer.

I emailed srixon last summer about the seam to stress how visually uninviting it is, but to also ask why. The representative said it’s how they fuse the two sides of the ball together. Probably bs, but he did send me a free dozen. Also hit, by far, my longest drives of the season with these. I didn’t see perf issues with the seam at all

I know everyone complains about the seam - and if that's a turnoff for you, I won't try and convince you otherwise. But, has anyone actually noticed a performance impact as a result of the seam showing up after some wear?

I've had the balls pretty chewed up and do not notice any performance issues.

I absolutely agree. Now that the fescue is 2 feet tall and thick I somehow don't notice the durability much.

Anyway I found the durability at least in yellow to be similar to the Bridgestone B330 XS, that being said the ProV1, TP5 and Chromesoft's have better durability. I generally buy any of these balls when they are on sale. Titleist's never go on sale so I stick generally with Srixon's.

In the spring when the rough wasn't up I had several balls that I got 36-54 holes on, they looked rough but still worked.

I stopped playing the last version (2019) due to the seam issue.  I dont think it affected actual performance, but it was a turn-off.

I have been playing the 2021 version since the father's day promo and the prime day deal.  I have 5 total dozen XVs as of now, actually, i have about 4.5 dozen because 5 balls seem to have gone missing in the ponds and OB farmlands/forest lol.  For these last 9-10 rounds or so, I'd say this current version is more durable than the last version.  Noticed 1 sleeve with noticable seams but the rest have looked fine.  2021 version seems more durable to me, it scuffs like all other balls I've played with would.  I'd like to think i'm a good tester of durability as my shots seem to regularly like to hit trees , cart paths, fences, etc.  Haven't noticed a seam issue on the balls i've hit.  The 2019 version, the seam "issue" i've noticed would eventually show up after a certain amount of hits or a certain amount of non-fairway "bounces".  Current version seems just a tad bit softer than the 2019 version as well.

I'd say not a bad ball when it goes on sale for under $30 per dozen.  I'm cheap though so I would never pay over $30 per dozen for urethane "tour" level balls.  If they did another 3 for price of 2 deal, or better yet 2 for 1, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this current version of Z Star XV.

I bought 3 or 4 dozen on the last deal for the 2019 XVs. The durability is not up to par with Srixon’s standard but other than that they are still good balls. The durability and bright white color was a big factor in why I liked srixon to begin with. It’s was so nice to feel like you are playing a brand new ball the entire round and that was not the case with this version of the XV.

I play the XV in my casual rounds but switch to the Tour BX in tournaments. The BX has a little more spin and softer feel. I can still play with the XV and switch back to the tour BX bc they react similar off the irons and driver.

Overall the XV still a great ball but I wish they would bring back the durability they are known for. I would not hesitate to buy more when they go on sale.

I prefer the feel and performance of the regular z star.

launches lower off the driver for me. Prefer the green side control it offers as well.

I bought 24 yellow 2020  XVs as I was surprised when I found one 3 weeks ago and really liked it.

I never thought I would like the high compression balls, after playing mostly soft balls for a while.

So far my impressions are:

Better feel and confidence with the putter, seems to give me better roll

Much better control and consistency with wedges

Better distance dispersion with irons but about 5-10 yds shorter

Better dispersion and about 5-10yds longer with woods and driver

Stays in the bag for now.

I wish they had more greenside spin tbh.  Touch too clicky for me when it comes to chipping and putting too

The XV has loads of spin on chips for me, just a bit surprised by this comment. The firmer feel doesn't sound like it spins but I think it is every bit as spinny as the regular Z star, ProV1x etc...

Finally have a couple rounds with the new XV.  Definitely feels a tad softer to me vs the previous model, which is a very good thing.  Even though I like the older model, I far preferred the feel of the regular Z Star, but it was lower launching and seemed to be shorter off the tee vs the XV, irons were about the same, feel off the putter was better with Z Star.   I would say the feel of the new XV is about halfway towards the regular Z Star, big improvement IMO.   So far really like it.

One note, one thing it is not good at, surviving cart paths, I hit two right out of the box off the tee that landed dead center on the cart path, very painful to do...... 😉
