What's your drink of choice on the course on a summer day?

Ice coffee on the way and for the first few holes. Then a water. At the turn a nice 16 oz IPA, like Tree House or something similar. Depending on the round weather a few Corona Lights May come out after that.

Summer morning we are looming at an iced coffee on the way to the course and the first few holes. Then bud light or Coronas on the course. 19th hole is a Tito’s lemonade.

This thread got me thinking, I rarely drink alchohol during my rounds anymore. When I played infrequently me and my boys would drink beers, fireball and anything else we had. Now that I play 3 times per week at my club, I never drink alcohol. Only water and Gatorade.

I'm a heavy sweater, so I lose a lot of electrolytes. Because of this I don't really drink while I'm playing as I get headaches. I just bring water and add in a pre-mixed hydration mix that has electrolytes and all of that in it. Much better than those calorie-laden high sugar low electrolyte sports drinks. I do hit the clubhouse after or in cooler weather I'll drink a few beers on the course.

I mix a can of Minute Maid frozen punch with 2 liters of water. Then I split it into 2 x 1 liter bottles. Freeze 1/2 of one overnight, put the two in a small carry cooler bag and add a NUUM tablet to each.

I can attach the bag to my push cart.

For a morning round when its not yet blistering hot a coffee with Bailey's. Great to shake off a hangover for a good round too.

NEIPA's. One or two if we're playing fast. Lots of them if the round is slow.

hoppy pilsner. They do not sit as heavy like an IPA and are extremely crushable. With that being said... I goal for 2020 is to cut down my beer consumption on the course. In the humid Ontario summers, nothing beats ice cold water.

What's your drink of choice on the course on a summer day?Well, to quench one's thirst beer is not a very good choice. Yes, it sounds cool, but it's a diuretic. Probably a low cal Gatorade type drink would be the best. I value thirst quenching over being cool, though.

Thanks for the hydration lesson doc. I'm pretty sure the question was posed as "what's your favorite alcoholic drink on the course" with a disclaimer for those that don't drink alcohol on the course.

I usually drink water at 1:1 ratio for every beer I have.

Well, actually it was either, but yes you are right alcohol was included in the question. I save my alcoholic beverages for after the round when relaxing in the lounge or going out to dinner. I think anyone serious with their golf game will do likewise and keep their alcohol consumption till after the round. Maybe, I'd have to look up the rules, but I think alcohol would probably be against the rules to consume if you keep record of your usga handicap. Maybe you are not that serious about your game to keep a handicap?

That is an impressive handicap, very nice! Although, my point was really a question, is drinking alcohol within the rules of a fair handicap? I have to imagine that many do consume alcohol and record their handicap, but is it within the rules to do so? It is a mind-altering drug and can calm a person down under stressful situations.

I agree with that, as I my back loosens up after a beer or two and I swing alot more freely.

I'm not sure about the rules question. All the tournaments I play in allow drinking and that's all that matters to me!

It sounds cliche, I suppose, but a can of Arnold Palmer just fits in the beverage holder on my trolley. I usually drink around 2/3rds of it before it gets warm on a hot day. Then I replace it with bottled water.

There is nothing in the USGA rules of golf pertaining to alcohol consumption, or drug use, or anything else. Tournament committee and organizations (such as pga tour) can ban substances and alcohol consumption, but strictly by the ROG, no, it isn’t breaking rules to drink while playing.

As for my beverage of choice, on the course it is either beer or water. Occasionally a shot or 4 of either gin or whiskey out of my flask.

 

after the round it is whatever I have at the house. I couldn’t tell you the last time I went into the clubhouse to hang out after a round. Most of the golf I play is with my wife, and she isn’t much of a drinker. We don’t bet so no need to go settle up after, we just play, load up and head home.

I hardly ever do either. I've already been gone most of the day, so I feel like it's a bit selfish to be gone from my wife and son an additional hour or two while I hang out at the bar. Now if it's a weekday round and they are at work/school then I might.

Now that is a wise decision! Having a couple after the round relaxing is enjoyable, but I don't think it's too cool during a round.

Beer. I like something easy to drink but not a light beer. Sweetwater Guide Beer or Founders Solid Gold are my current go to golf-beers. In the summer, I may do a lighter IPA like Terrapin Up Hi or Creature Comforts Tropicalia
