`16 M2 Shaft Recommendations

This seems to be a head held in high regard by WRX. For those who have, or are currently playing it, what shaft is a good combination w/ the M2 head in 9.5*?

It is, for good reason. Shaft depends on your swing. Any shaft pairs well with it if it fits your swing.

Yes, agree. Pair the shaft to the golfer, not the head.

Every golfer is different as their swings are different which is why there is a multitude of shafts out there in different flexes and price points.

Shafts pair with swings, not heads. People that have had great success with certain "pairings" are not having it due to some magic between the shaft and the head, or if they are it is for reasons they are not accounting for (certain weights, lengths etc). Find what fits you and stick with it.

I agree with all of the above but cause it’s WRX. I’ll tell you my set up. It’s a 10.5 turned up as high as it will go with lead tape in the heel. Pairs with a Fuji atmos black in stiff. It’s like a cannon

tried several, had a good experience w Kuro Kage Prototype TS. one can be had way lower on the 'bay than the fancy XT or XDs. guess it's depending on your swing, tho. good luck. ppl seem to like M2 here, but i didn't much like the sound.

Certainly the above comments are correct in that you can’t just pick any shaft and expect good results without taking the human element into consideration. On the other hand, driver heads also have generic characteristics that can be taken of. The original M2 is a higher launch without an extremely low spin. It can let you get away with using a bit “too much” shaft for better feel and dispersion, particularly in terms of tip stiffness, without killing carry distance. It’s that combination potential IMO that so many people found to be compelling.

Thanks for everyone`s thoughts. Let me ask this question another way. I'm curious, for those of you that still play the `16 M2, what shaft do you use?

Ive played low low shafts in the 16m2 with good success specifically a 60x ahina tipped 1inch. Found this combo very fade bias.

I have also played an attas go go 5 6x that I could turn over easier. I do find this head fairly low spin with class leading ballspeed. Every 16m2 Ive played 2 tour issued heads and a couple retail heads have had lower loft than stated. I'm not sure if that was a common trend or just the heads I recieved.

Completely depends on your swing. However, I don't recommend going counter balanced unless you have the ability to hot melt. My m2 head only weighed around 196g with the screw, which by today's standards is very light. I had to add a few strips of lead tape unless I used a really tip heavy shaft. If you go CB the amount of lead you'd need to add back, especially if you play at 45'' or less will be silly.

I'm going to echo the fact that the swing effects shaft choice, not the head...but I'll also try to throw something out here. If you're looking to experiment a little (and stay on the lower end of the cost spectrum), I'd go this way...If you swing easy/smooth, try one of the Evenflow shafts...If you like to take a big rip at it, throw a HZRDUS shaft in it.

I've experimented with many shafts in mine, which is a 8.5 tour. As of right now I have a Project X 6A4 tip stiff 7.0 tipped 1", per Taylormade and absolutely love it! It checks all the boxes for me. And best of all, paid $39.99 for it new! They have several flexes and tip configurations if you need less than an x. Highly recommend and not much investment in cash to try.
