I mean, lead tape is just tape made out of lead....so it "only works" for whatever problem needs weight to solve.

 

In this case, I will go one further on my "Matsuyama is a bit of a headcase" thesis and theorize that it is a total weight mark he is trying to hit with every single club. The labels on his shafts show a bunch of specs, including total weight for non adjustable clubs and shaft + grip weight for adjustable hosel ones. That information would only be there if it was asked for/required, which means he cares about total weight, likely from extensive blind testing and experience with his own feel. The same goes for the very specific total club lengths and tipping requirements (1/4" is very specific). Combine all that with the fact that grips can be +/- a few grams from their published spec and you have the recipe for an extremely picky player adding tiny amounts of lead tape to hit certain numbers he has on paper after his clubs have been regripped. That is my theory anyway, but it fits.

Really curious as to what those irons are. They don’t seem to have the cutout in the muscle like the retail 925 do. Sole of the 945 but not as sharp in the muscle. Srixon badging is like the newer product. Wonder how often he changes or how many sets he goes through due to wear
