Wedge Shaft Flex vs. Rest of the Bag

Hello all. Just had a question about the potential impact my wedge shafts are having on my game.

I play X-Flex shafts in my driver (Fujikura ATMOS Tour Spec Black 7x) and fairway wood (Aldila NV 2KXV Green 75x) and Stiff shafts in my irons (KBS Tour FLT Stiff). My 56 and 60 wedges, however, have S200 shafts in them, which seems like it might be a bit soft in comparison to the rest of my bag (S400 seems like the shaft de jour for someone with my overall specs). Driver swing speed is around 115.

I don't really have any complaints about how they perform currently, but generally speaking, could I be getting better dispersion/etc from a stiffer shaft or is it just more of a feel thing?

I realize getting fit/getting Trackman data is the way to go, but the question has been on my mind and I'm not in a position to go test it out anytime soon.

TT Wedge Flex S200 weighs about 127 grams. The S400 weighs a few grams more. The Wedge Flex is a low-launch shaft with moderate spin.

The KBS Tour FLT shafts (S flex) in your irons weigh 120 grams, which is lighter than the Wedge Flex S200s. AS most players use their SW and LW for partial shots, a slightly lighter S200 (compared to S400) in wedges would help with spin on less than full shots.

It seems like you've fallen into musings about "what if." Unless there's some performance problem with the SW and LW, don't worry about splitting hairs (literally) on shafts.

If you are taking full hard swings with your wedges you might want the same shafts as your irons. If you hit a lot of partial and touch shots you might like the feel of a softer shaft. I am never really going full out with my sand and lob wedge so I have S300's in those and then X100's in my gap wedge and up through my iron set

Thanks for the insight. Yeah, if there isn't much difference, I won't be chasing new wedge shafts. I have the bag all set and am planning to play in some more tournaments next year, so was just making sure I wasn't leaving any potential increased performance on the table.

Good move! Last-minute tinkering is more likely to spoil your _peace of mind_ than improve performance.

And, let us know how you do!

Glad I stopped in to read this. I have a very similar set up to yours. X in the woods, KBS Tour S in my irons, and I have been toying with the idea of replacing the stock vokey wedge shafts... No issues with how they perform, so they will stay
