Town of Bandon

They had a live band and tons of weird art, it was a great vibe. Then we grabbed a drink at an Irish pub and had some Guinness. Can't remember the name of the pub but it was a great time!

Fun festival

It's not so much gone downhill, it was just a serviceable place for a meal - absolutely nothing wrong with that BTW, but it was nothing more than that - and it remains so (barring I think the consensus that the quality of the meatloaf has dropped).

We typically go Bandon Brewery for pizza, The Wheelhouse or Edgewaters for seafood or meat-based dinner. There's a dive in Florence we go for their Tues Steaknight on the drive down, but once in Bandon we've not gone to the dives there.

Bandon Brewing i really enjoy their pizza but others have said it’s average. Arcade Tavern doesn’t really have food. I had 2 meals at Broken Anchor while staying in town last time and was pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think McKee’s is bad just ridiculously busy. Plus I like supporting the town as opposed to just the resort.

As a beer-tourist I like that there's an onsite local beer option with taps for said beer, as before it was only the booze barn up the hill or the local grocery stores for variety.

I didn't think McKee's has gone downhill at all, but I've only been there twice and my first time in 2017, so maybe it was better/different previously. I've never had a bad meal there fwiw.

Additionally if you're planning on eating there I might suggest a reservation. This last trip people were frequently turned away as they were full.

McKee's has always been pretty good, I haven't noticed that it's gone "downhill". I've always felt the best food at Bandon was at Bandon Trails, Trails End.

I don't think McKee's has gone downhill, maybe just leveled off. It's not Sardi's. It's pub food and decent enough. My last trip I tried several spots in town and found nothing better. Notable exception, as Duffer mentioned is Bandon Coffee Cafe for the breakfast sandwich. Super tasty and not bigger than your head like the ones at the resort. If I'm staying in town, that's the way the days begin, and most would end at the brew pub or Tony's Crab Shack.

But if I'm staying onsite, I'm not making the drive into town for anything. The resort food has always been perfectly sufficient (at worst), I don't want to get up any earlier in the mornings and am pretty wasted by the evening. Definitely make reservations at McKee's, though.

"take that, you miserable little white swine!"

For an authentic Scottish links experience @ Bandon, one must go north to Coos Bay and get into a drinking contest with some of the Sause Bros. deckhands.

stayed in town on arrival day and I ate at Edgewaters and enjoyed the fish stew (I think it was chiopino) so much I called them ahead of Christmas Eve to see if they’d spill the secret (toasted almond oil, or something along those lines).

Agree with most McKees opInions, I found it average at best, even for hearty tavern food. Was so amped for the meatloaf and found it ok but what really sucked were the frozen TV dinner style mashed potatoes. Fish and chips was similarly average, and the chicken pot pie was oddly bland and lacking salt

loved lunches at Pacific. Nicest surprise and most reliable food for me all week was turn stands. Caddie turned me onto the brats. And the various chowders and chili were perfect in March, even for breakfast.

The meatloaf is not as good as it used to be, not sure why but it's not. I am disappoint.

I'm planning a seven day BD trip this summer for eight guys and struggling with places to eat. The BD restaurants don't appear to be that exciting and I never like to eat only at resorts. I'm sure we will go into Bandon for dinner three or four times. I like to mix in one or two fine dining nights along with other more casual dinners or brewpubs. So I'm looking for feedback. Here are my notes so far;

Tufted Puffin: Very limited menu, mostly snack food. Not really a dinner venue.

Pacific Grill: Limited menu with only six entrees, but what they list sounds wonderful.

McKees: Typical Pub Food and will probably eat here one night.

Trails End: Limited Asian menu. Might eat here one night.

Edgewaters: Menu looks nice and it gets good reviews. Nice wine list. Will definitely eat here one night.

Angelo's: Italian. Menu looks nice. Cheap prices. Not sure if they take reservations.

Alloro Wine Bar: Great menu and wine list. This one will be on our list.

Lord Bennett's: Looks nice but prices and wine list not online.

The Loft: Cannot find their website.

Foley's Irish Pub: Irish pub food. Looks exciting. This one is on my list.

Bandon Brewing Co: Great beer list. Mostly pizza. Will go here or Foley's.

My caddie suggested Lord Bennett’s but I never made it there. One thing about going into town, especially if everyone’s drinking, is i found it to be a longer drive than I expected based on the map.

Ive touted Edgewaters, loved my dinner there. On property I wouldn’t be scared by the short menus. Everything I ate at Pacific was outstanding. Trails, too, but definitely an Asian flair, although I’d say it’s more an Asian take on bistro food, not typical Asian.

McKees meatloaf was decent. Not a fan of the mashed potatoes. Also the wings there were too heavily breaded and wayyyy too much sauce.

Trails - definite Asian flair. My buddy had the tuna met with Kim chi and he liked it. I liked the rockfish sandwich. Chili was mediocre.

Pac - Burgers were good. Onion rings were on the greasier side. Would have opted for the fries if I’d known.

Gallery - breakfast was easy to get a table for during a frost delay. Omelette with bacon, avocado, cheese was good. Get the hash browns extra crispy.

The Bar (next to Gallery) - TVs while u eat. Calamari was so-so. Usual bar food.

Pro Tips:

If you can’t get a seat in The Gallery just go to the bar and you can get the same menu. Get the wings simply fried and sprinkled with salt. Delicious. The wagyu burger is really big. I could barely eat half. Get it with fries instead of the potato wedges. My buddy got the fillet twice so I’m assuming he liked it, but the second time he got it with fries instead of pomme frites which were like very thin shoe string fries.

Another nod for the Minute Cafe. But you have to get there early. It's a local's joint and very popular. Get there after 8am and it will be a much longer visit than you probably want.
