My dilemma, Snell MTB-X or Bridgestone Tour B RX

I've been down this road as well. I settled on playing the shorter ball. For me this is the Oncore Elixr. It feels so much better than anything else I was using. Its a club short into the greens but the feel I have with it I wasn't willing to trade for more distance. I want more distance but not if it feels harsh.

I've actually played the Elixir for a few weeks and you are correct. Amazing feel, but definitely shorter. I can't afford the distance loss.

Have you played anything that is even close to the Elixr feel wise? If I could find that feel with more distance they can just have all my money, lol

I played 18 holes today in Laughlin, NV at Laughlin Ranch. Had some weird experiences.

I played both the Tour B RX and MTB-X. Unfortunately, I couldn't play two balls all the time so I had to settle for hitting both balls when I could.

On one hole I hit both balls with the driver. The MTB-X was no less than 30 yards longer. I think they were both good hits and perhaps the MTB-X was a little better strike. However, I followed it up with a 3w where they landed off the driver and the MTB-X was only about 5 yards a head of the RX.

In all other cases, whether I hit the ball with driver or iron, the MTB-X was out front. Not by a lot but it was enough to sway me to keep playing the MTB-X. I also had some really good shots into the greens where the MTB-X landed softly and was within a yard or two of the landing spot. On one downhill par 3, I hit a 5 iron into the green and it stopped just a yard from the ball mark. Absolutely stunning, even if I do say so myself.

I will try the same thing tomorrow with both balls and see how they compare. I did play the RX first most of the time so tomorrow I'll switch it up and play the MTB-X first.

I am definitely in the overall performance over feel camp. That being said, it also depends on how much distance you are giving up. A couple of yards difference, then go for the better feeling ball. But if you are seeing a total of 1 1/2 to 2 clubs difference per hole, and the ball feels good, just not great, then I would think you have to lean to the performance side.

One more time at the course today, I had a great opportunity to compare the MTB-X and the Bridgestone B RX. The course was all but empty and I was able to hit comparison shots on a number of holes.

Most of the time, the MTB-X was longer... maybe not by much, but it was always out front. However, in defense of the RX, even my bad hits ended up very close to the same distance as the MTB-X, which felt like a much better shot. Made me think.

Maybe since I've been playing the MTB-X so much, it just felt much better off ever club, including the putter. And yes, there is definitely a difference off the putter. I noticed that I had to hit the MTB-X just slightly harder to match the distance of the RX off the putter. However, I could get the ball closer to the hole with the MTB-X but that's probably because I've used it so much.

In conclusion, I don't think my swing is precise enough to make a fair comparison. My longest drives are probably around the 200 yard mark and perhaps it's hard to find someone with a good repeatable swing if they only hit the ball around 200 yards?

I've decided to stay with the MTB-X. Using two balls is definitely messing with my head because I have to alter my swing based on what I know about how the ball is going to react to my swing.

I think the Snell is a bit longer for me, but It might be 5-10 yards longer. More often than not, I feel like it is as long as the ProV1x that I usually play, but since it is so less expensive, I'll be using it going forward.
