Might be done buying golf shoes

Recommended Posts

Some of the upper line trail running shoes seem to be very good and a better value than the golf shoes and easier on the feet, knees, and ankles. Has anyone gone this route? They honestly seem to be as good or better quality than most of the modern golf shoes and some of the rubber soles seems to offer the same grip as the new style golf shoes. Most of them are definitely more comfortable and many times less money. Has anyone tried this? Not sure what the real advantage of many of the new golf shoes are.

I did this a while back with a pair of trail Hoka One One.. The torque produced through the swing deformed my shoes a little and my outside foot at the little toe area began to break through the mesh. I naturally supinate which was not helping.

I bought a pair of FootJoy spikeless golf shoes and I can't wear them, they hurt my ankles too much because they dig in so well. I have worn them probably twice and they sit idle downstairs. I have a pair of Ecco spikeless golf shoes that I usually wear or if I'm in a hurry and it's a casual round, I just wear my running shoes without any problems at all.

There are waterproof options but, I am not totally concerned about waterproof. I do have some Ecco's that are waterproof if I need them. Overall comfort is more important to me. I also have Adidas Crossnit Boost and they are not waterpoof either. Never been an issue though. I actually bought a pair of Adidas Terrex Two Parley's and I don't see much difference between them and most modern style golf shoes, e and I got a good deal on them. I am going for comfort.

When I bought my Wildhorse 5s this summer, my first thought (after how it doesn’t suck to log 10+ miles in them) was that they might make decent golf shoes. That said, I’ve still not taken them out on the course. Waterproofing is a huge reason I’ll keep wearing my regular golf shoes.

The tread on the pair of shoes I purchased seem to be no more aggressive that some of the golf shoes on the market. They are no worse than say the Foot Joy Flex. I tried them on side by side at the store. There are some that do have a more aggressive tread.

I think some of the massive cleats could but the shoes I purchased are not the large ones and are soft rubber. Also, where I play there are very few bent grass greens left. I could those being more of an issue. I have notice even with golf shoes there is an impression left in the green when you walk but then, it springs back pretty quickly. Some of the new hybrid greens are pretty resilient and durable.

On a dry summer day, I don't think many realize the fact that you don't need that much traction at all. If your temple is correct and you're not trying to over swing, most any athletic shoe out there will work. My running shoes are somewhat worn down but I still wear them without any problems. It's when I swing too hard and out of sink that there becomes a problem.

I've switched over to the Nike Spikeless recently and I would say that the hold is as good as spikes. Comfortable, lightweight and waterproof

No noticeable difference to the putting surface after walking around?

None at all. And, I own Eccos, Skechers, Adidas, Oakley, golf shoes. They do not bother the surface at all. I have the Terrex Two Parley. Matter of fact I just ordered another pair of Terrex Two on sale for $59. The only issue I can see is them not being water proof if that is a concern.

Was thinking the exact same thing the other week about my Terra Kigers, wishing nike would use the sole as a base for a golf shoe, or just make a water proof Terra Kiger, I'd defo be in for a pair.

Unrelated, but how do you like the Kiger? I almost bought them over the Wildhorse, but ended up going for the slightly burlier option. Now the Peg 36 Trail is tempting me...

Really like them, nice wide sole, light, dry quick, no complaints. Not sure how they would fair on a more rocky trail, the sole has a fair bit of 'fee' to it.

Got a pair of Pegasus 36 Trail at the same time, but sent them back, the fitting around the heel was a bit odd.

Interesting on the Peg. I really like my 35 for the road, and I've heard nothing but great things about the 36 Trail. Sorry it didn't work out for you with them! I'm loving the new colorways on all their trail model shoes right now.

Agreed, a good set of colourways, wish they would have the same approach to the ACG gear, some of the pastel colours they use for that line put me off.
