I just bought a set of 945 to try out for cheap cheap. I'm still wanting to find a set of these in good condition to have a go with. I'll see how the 945 play - I think they'll be good. Very interested in whether or not these provide much more help though. My gut tells me the 945 will be fine down to 5i.

I had the 945s, too... they are beautiful, some of the most beautiful ever, but I thought the 745s were considerably more forgiving and I really wanted to game the 945s. I wouldn't say the 945s are as tough as maybe some of the Titleist MBs but the forgiveness of a good players CB is hard to ignore.

Yeah I’m interested to see how they play. They may end up back on BST but I have no issue playing blades generally. I’m interested to see if they keep the spin up over the 765 I HD because I adore the feel of the V sole. Our conditions up in Canada vary so much and when I go to Florida in the winter it is often very soft so having the V sole is great.

If you're looking for a gap wedge you can get it in a 785 series domestically. It wont exactly match obviously, but its good enough. I actually really like hitting mine.

Funny it seems like every family of releases has its big hits. The 2014 hit was the 7 series. The 2016 was the 9 series. And it seems like tons of love for the 2018 5 and 7 series.

Me. 745's with SF i95's. Still gaming and am dreading the day I have to change. Faces are showing some wear and a little browning. Hopefully the Zx7 is a little bit of a move back to the old shape. I've heard it is, but will have to wait until I see them in person.

Regarding which is best? In order for me: 745's, 785's 765's.

Sold my 745s with PX 5.5, but bought another set off the bay with Modus 105s about 6 months ago, they are in the bag for now but will most likely back up my Hogan Icons when they arrive... I will not be selling the 745s anytime soon though... amazing irons, the shape is perfect.

I'll likely be one of the few that were super 'meh' on them. Picked up a split set of 4-7 746 and 8-P 945, have changed the shafts 3 times and still just think they are 'ok'. I prefer hitting my iblades to them by a wide margin.

  • 1 year later...

Anyone still on 745...seems many have switched to zx7.  I went to Z745 late after being a Cally guy for years...made the switch 3 seasons ago.  Just can't get off of them, no matter what I test.  Was on the range yesterday with the 745 PW and was just working it...feather, power, draw, fade...and the feel was just money.  PS...Im not even a crazy good ballstriker...just a chunky miss old guy.  Seriously thinking of picking up another set.

Still playing mine as well. 6 years and counting now...

I have been toying with the idea of switching over to the ZX5 or 7, though that's more because I want something new and shiny, rather the ZX series being significantly better. The technology in the new irons is not that different and any gains would be marginal, most likely.

The bottom line is that the 745s just do everything well. They also feel amazing and there is enough forgiveness in them that bad swings are somewhat forgiven. IMO they're an all time classic.

I just sold my 785s... was probably a dumb move but I got fit for P770s.  I was looking at the new ZX line and honestly, the ZX5 looks like a slightly bigger 745.  I am kind of wishing I had tried them....  I did hit the zx7 7i, looks a little better than the 785, but I wasn't hitting anything nearly as well as the P770.  If these don't work out, I think I will be looking for the ZX5 set next.

Still on mine, 6 years and counting and absolutely no desire to replace them.  Some bag chatter, but outside they a ton of life left, no reason to change.

Only change made is I did drop the 745 4i for the 545 4i version, just a little "hotter" and lower spin, allows for a bit more separation between the 4i and 5i spots than I was getting.

i played 745's for a season and a half. loved them. only thing that annoyed me after awhile was the blade length. if srixon made their irons a LITTLE shorter heel/toe i would be all over them.

Still on mine, I've got a split set of 545s 5 and 6 iron and 7-pw of 745s.  Absolutely love them and almost wish i would've gone all 745 but the extra forgiveness is helpful in the long irons when I don't have my best ball striking day.  Still plenty of life left and I have zero intention of moving on from them anytime soon.

I think the ZX7 and 745 are similar but different.. overall blade size looks similar with the 745 having a slightly more square toe shape to my eye.  The sole on the 745 is a little wider, not a bad thing, just depends on what works for you.  Both will feel excellent, and look great in the bag.  I am on my 3rd or 4th set of 745s now, this after selling my 3rd set of 785s, could have gone ZX7 honestly but decided to save a few bucks and go with the older model.  Really can't go wrong IMO.

I’m still on my 745’s. Every few months I’ll hit the ZX7’s and whilst they’re also amazing, there’s very little difference in performance for me.

The positive here is I know there’s a ready made replacement to move into once these 745’s give up the ghost. Won’t be any time soon as I’ve now got two sets in good condition whilst looking out for another…

I picked up a set on 545/745 and had them re-shafted with Modus 120x and swingweighted to d3. Best irons I've ever hit, so feel incredible, powerful flight and love the way they look. Love them!
