I went from mallet to blade to mid mallet and back to blade now which I will probably stick with 90% of the time. I just can't find many really nice mallet putters that are left handed that my eye agrees with and or can find/afford. Blades are much more common most companies are doing an Anser style putter with either square or rounded bumpers so you'll have options even as a lefty in most cases. I do like a heavier putter and these days you can find blades pushing 400g if need be and can also get a blade in any face balance, don't need to only use a mallet if you need a face balanced putter.

Tons of face balanced blades on the market. It took me years to figure out that mallets were not for me.

I went from my np2 this year to a face balanced blade that I made, and rolled it for a couple months, but the heavy headweight just was letting me down in terms of distance control. So I've gone back to my #7 just for sh*ts and have been finding it so nice and easy to hit on line. Pace is getting there as I get used to the insert again..... now when I play with the np2 at home it looks so long heel to toe compared to these other 2 sticks its just looking strange to my eye right now.

Anything with a long plumbers neck will be face balanced, a double bend, some pipe necks and some custom necks are face balanced as well.

If you take a plumbers neck and draw an imaginary line from the end of the shaft to the bottom of the putter the line will go between the heel and mid point of the putter. With a long neck and other face balanced putters the line will go right down the middle. Putters with a lot of toe hang will be more towards the heel.

I also am a Tad Moore putter fan. His long neck models like the Giraffe are pretty much face balanced. He made ( and still makes) some dandy putters.

After spending about 3 years experimenting with mallets I just sold the last ones and will not try them soon again. I am now putting much better with either my Byron Morgan 615 or my Swag Suave one.

I’ve just bought and received a Cortino 2, and I’ll be giving it an outing tomorrow for the first time. Feels very nice. It’s got a standard Piretti grip on it currently, but depending on how things go I may fit a Fat Grip that I have lying around.

It’s darker in real life than these pictures suggest, works quite well with the green Fat Grip. Black Onyx I guess.

I used a few face balanced mallets and semi mallets in the past but after getting confused with all the lines on an Odyssey Dart, I tried a naked SC Newport which worked very well to me, however I couldn’t buy it at that moment. Nevertheless in the following years, I got several Anser style putters and my current that is a Bullseye flange inspired blade made by Lajosi.

I really never understood the term face balanced, because those putters do have a flat face while aiming to the sky and obviously we don’t use putters in that way. I believe that a putter should be balanced while stroking and at impact avoiding that the weight and MOI cause undesirable torsion while you’re putting. While my Bullseye is balanced at impact, the FB mallets I have turn clockwise, meaning that to someone with an arc, the putter will help to compensate and get a straighter stroke. Just my thoughts...

I agree. I’ve got plenty of different toe-hangs and it doesn’t appear to make any difference. What does make a difference is a nicely balanced backswing.

Wow. .. Thanks that really explains the concept very simply and elegantly.
