Just another reason to buy Ping ...

Recommended Posts

I had an arccos driver that I used for all of 3 swings. It was a huge piece of crap and the app sucked.

Hopefully these are better

Question: Can you buy a used set off say eBay and then send to Ping to do custom grinds to them? I've always avoided Ping irons because of the high bounce, but now that I've played Glide wedges for an entire season, I honestly think the high bounce benefits me for the most part. I would just want some trailing edge relief and maybe 1* of bounce removed since I do tend to be on the more shallow side. I really want that hydropearl finish on all my clubs now after having seen some test data by various sources (TXG, MG$, etc).

My most recent round had me seeing some wet grass conditions and there was 2-3 wedges from the rough where my ball really jumped on me and ran quite a bit on the green. One ball pitched <3 foot from the cup but ran off the green into the fringe. Instead of a outside chance at birdie and a very good chance of par, I was fighting for a 2 putt (and ended up 3 putting).

I did some research into this. If you have a Ping serial number that qualifies you can get a set of Arccos sensors for free. You have to download the Arccos app and sign up for the $99 Caddy option, but the first 3 months are free and you can cancel during that period.

The sensors will work with the app without the extra function of the Caddy option at no cost. My buddy has been using the Arccos system for well over a year with no monthly fees. I use GameGolf and we compare stats etc and it seems like the Arccos system is more robust.

The downside right now is the offer has been so popular the Ping website is glitchy when you try to place the order. I spoke with a Ping rep and he confirmed they were aware of it and suggested I keep trying. Well that didn’t work so I emailed Ping support and a rep took my shipping info and my order was processed that way.

I have a reminder set to prompt me to cancel the Caddy add-on before I get charged (unless for some reason I really like it) and I’ll have a set of Arccos tags at no cost. No brainer really.

It seems as though the Caddie is the Tracking, stats and suggestion features. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Here is an explanation from another site:

“First you have to collect the data by either buying the Arccos 360 sensors, in which case the Caddie service is free. Of if you buy the latest Cobra clubs or the Arccos Smart Grips with the sensors built in, the first 30 days are free and then you pay an annual subscription.“

From this it appears you don’t need to pay for the Caddie functions as you own the tags.

So without the paid app, Caddie, the sensors don't do the basics like tracking and stats?

I hope someone corrects me, but it seems as though you have to go in and manually enter your round shot by shot, it doesn’t do it automatically

You have to edit the round as there may be a missed shot or the flag was misplaced. The app uploads the round. You can also get real time yardages for drives which is revealing when you “crush” one and see that it’s 248.

Shit tracking and stats are available at the get go and are the guts of the system. The Caddie feature activates after you have played 5 rounds so it has enough data to make a club reccomendation.

All the other stats and tracking will continue outside of the caddie function.

I can confirm the sensors work without the subscription. I received these earlier this week and paired them with an older Arccos 360 account I had from a few years back. (I had bought the sensors and decided to return them). The sensors had no issue pairing to my older account. I played two rounds yesterday without issue. Definitely a great deal if all you want is the GPS and stat tracking and don’t care about the smart caddie functionality

Idk if Im in the minority here but I contacted Arccos after I received the PING promotion and dont really like the tabs on my clubs after a couple of rounds and dont foresee using it after the trial run is over. So I reached out to Arccos and said I wanted to cancel the service before the 90 day free trial was up so that they didnt charge my credit card. They require you to mail them back the "free" Arccos tabs to their office in CT. Just a heads up for those of you that got them.

Just took my word I guess.

I tried them for a few rounds and didn't like them. First of all they are way too big for me. I found myself gripping the tag during a swing. Then I think they are not very user friendly. You have to hold the clubs upside down while walking to your ball as holding them upright activates the tag. I had lots of missed tags as I would walk to a shot holding 2 wedges and a putter and apparently wasn't holding them just right. I also had multiple 3 putt greens when I didn't.

Anyways, its probably because I'm old and used to GameGolf and the tags and system are fine. Used email to cancel the Caddie subscription and the customer support was excellent. I'll ask around my leagues to see if anyone is interested in them.

My buddy used Arccos for a couple of years and said he liked the system. Several months ago he started using it with his Apple Watch and said the combo was a fail. Way too many missed shots.

That's a shame. I guess I'll give a try myself when it arrives and I'll report back if I experience anything otherwise.

Thanks for the feedback.
