I have not attended a tournament there, but I have played there multiple times including with bleachers/tents set up for PGA Championship. The course is suited very well to spectators. Every hole will have a parallel hole next to it. So for example, #1 runs parallel to #9, #10 runs parallel to #18. Holes 2-4 run south along the lake and 5-8 run north along the same lakeshore. Then 11-13 run north along the lake and 14-17 run south along the lake. So for example when you are standing looking at #2, you are also right next to #7 and #8. Should be very easy viewing and some of the dunes are easily 3-4 stories high, so should have plenty of room to see.

Just a heads up, if you were one to get an email from the Ryder Cup saying you were selected to have the opportunity to buy tickets, that doesn't guarantee that you will be getting tickets. There is still a very long waiting and queue process and the tickets are not guaranteed. Many people who received emails will have to wait in the queue and tickets will not be available to everyone.

This...

As far as a spectator course... there are a bunch of dunes available to sit on, good views of the lake... but there is a bit of a bottleneck around 2, 3, & 5.

I was there for the PGA, great place to watch golf, easier to layout to get around compared to Erin hills for the USA open, we got trapped a few times haha. Lines were long for food would be my only complaint. Took 45 min to get my nephew a Gatorade and over and hour for a Hotdog. Not having as many groups on the course as a Sat. for PGA, not sure how that will change.

I have been to two Ryder Cups and won’t do it again. It is both the best and worst spectator experience in golf. It’s the best in that nothing can match the energy and the crowd. It’s the worst in that there are so many people and not a lot of golf to watch. My recommendation is find a spot to watch where there is also a video board.

Yes, Milwaukee will probably be your best place to stay, as it is a big city and only about an hour away. I would bet you would even be able to find shuttles directly from Milwaukee to Whistling Straits.

Yes, that is perfectly fine. Not too bad of a drive but try to stay near the North end of Milwaukee to alleviate any city traffic.

I feel this way about golf events in general. I'll go to 1 round each year there is a tournament here (chicago area) just for the experience and to see some shots up close. But going to a golf tournament is not a good watch to see a lot of golf. I imagine even more so at the Ryder Cup. But I am going to try and get tickets for 1 day to experience it.

Port Washington has a few hotels, but I expect they'll fill up fast.

Yeah, I have to reluctantly agree after being at 2016 matches at Hazeltine. I only attended Friday, so maybe Sunday is better with all the singles matches. But when there are only 4 matches occurring in the morning and then again in the afternoon it's a ton of people moving around, & queing up on just a few holes. Some people try to hunker down on blechers on the finishing holes, to end up only seeing 1 or 2 groups get to holes 16/17/18.

The energy, the chanting, and all that were cool but overall it was hard to get to see much golf without skipping ahead at least 3-4 holes trying to get near a tee box or green, then waiting for the groups to go through and then jumping ahead another 3-5 holes to catch them again and rinse/repeat. Not to mention how crazy prices are for food, beverage and merchandise.

Perhaps I'm just spoiled from getting to attend practice rounds at the Masters twice, but I don't even think I'm going to log on and make an effort to try to get tickets to this one.

Heard there were a lot of pissed off people that weren't able to get tickets for this event. I got right in when the waiting room opened and pulled 4 tickets to Tuesday practice round. No interest in seeing actual Ryder Cup action, it has become a made for TV event in that respect in my opinion.
