Love Bugs In SWFL

They’re back. I frequently drive to the Orlando area. Last May, I encountered ‘clouds’ of them on the road. White cars were practically unrecognizable. Car washes must really like May and September.

This spring on the east coast was the worst in recent years I remember

Moved away from there about 17 years ago, but, remember the mess those made on the front of a car. I started using Zymol wax on all my vehicles and they wiped right off with a damp cloth. Well worth the cost and a little elbow grease to keep your paint from being destroyed.

They were the worst I've ever seen them this May all over Florida. Have only seen a few so far this Fall.

May was brutal in the Tampa area. So far I’ve only seen a few this month.

Newly transplanted to Florida. I have heard they destroy the paint on cars. How do you get them off the car without destroying the paint?

Fabric softener dryer sheets if they cake on. The key is to wash your car early and often.

They werent bad at all in Orlando this year. No 'swarms' to speak of.

The past couple weeks when I did some BBQ using peach wood, the love bugs would swarm the smoke. Fortunately my lanai is screened so I could watch the swarm without dealing with them.
