How is the tp5 working? Can get these cheaper then anything with the AJGA discount.

Mr. Roboto.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

The TP5 is what he played his last two events with because he's a TM junkie... Had him play his previous ball this past week and he's going back to it. From watching him play quite a bit the TP5 was better for his swing than the TP5X. The X version of the ball did go further but it also went further offline when not hit well. The TP5 seemed to stay in the fairway.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Not allowed because of spam.com

Looking at the charts, with 7i and Wedge it is the most accurate ball. Not so much with the driver.

We did testing after school today. Very interesting results from trying three of the top contenders listed. I'm not going to post our results only because I don't want to sway anyone one way or another and my son's swing speed is different than your kid's. Each ball we tested had its own set of pros and cons but one did stand out for us as the new gamer. Here's what I will say, find a ball that has the best balance of great results through the bag for your kid and a ball that your kid wants to play. There was one ball that my son obviously wanted to 'win' because he has been playing it a lot recently but even he realized that another one of the contenders was better for him and he agreed on the switch. Now I have to go buy more of them. Good news is that I have a new gamer since his bag is full of the old ones and I really don't care what I play as long as it's white and round.

My 8YO swing speed is far below 85MPH, so we are just going to continue to play the Chrome Soft balls. They are urethane, looks like it spins around the greens and holds well. Plus, he likes the Stars&Stripes Blue/Red Truvis patterned balls.

That's some great data points though to study for when he gets a bit older. Does that website do this type of testing annually?

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

My son's swing speed is around 70 and we too are just sticking with the Chrome Soft Truvis. All the reasons you said plus my son thinks they look cool so that helps his confidence. We keep a sleeve of Bridgestone E6's just in case he is in a funk and needs to see something different.

Yes, but the main points is that this new review brings question into the validity of MGS review. Both the regular Chromesoft and Chromesoft X was ranked near the bottom of MGS chart, which shocked a lot of people.

Many parents on this forum are having their juniors play soft balls, especially Wilson Duo Urethane and Chromesoft, and now they will shy away from playing those balls in the future due to MGS reporting. What TXG (and other ball reviews) have shown is that there isn’t a huge difference between the top tier balls, definitely not 17 yards or so claimed by MGS. While I’m not saying one side is wrong or right, but I do think we should pause and think if the numbers from each side make sense.

Go to a ball fitting or test for yourself and report back your findings. My son and I do it every year on course and Callaway has always been the shortest. Even if the number comes out that Callaway is 5 yards shorter and you play that on a long par 5 you now have 10 more yards to make up on your third shot into the green. That could be a club or two more they would have to hit in some cases. Don't put your kid at a disadvantage just because you have some grudge against the website that did that test.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Thanks for the comment Leezer. I definitely will take my son out for golf ball fitting in the future when he's old enough and I can find a place that can take junior golfers seriously. Having said that he's playing Callaway balls at the moment not because of distance, but because of the amount of spin it generated compared to other balls. We've seen him stick the ball on the green whereas others just rolled off. I don't play golf and don't have any loyalty with any brands. I wish he would play Kirkland balls in fact. Golf is expensive as is.

And no I don't have any grudge against any websites. I, In fact, find MGs very informative. ;-)

Son played the AVX for two years. Prov1s last year. Brought a box of RXS just to see and I believe they were on sale. He loves them. Better like someone said with irons and the wedge shots. He hasn't switched back since.

Tried the Srixon, but the ball has to be switched out during the round due to all the scuffs.
