Blade Lovers, Help!

Hey folks. So I love blades. I try to consider other options but they always pull me back. The looks, the feel, the tradition.. blade lovers out there know the feels. Anyways The titular question is : are there blades out there with lower bounce thinner sole, all that good stuff. BUT have a good helping of heel to toe camber? ALSO if possible no offset... or at least almost none... I hate offset :s I like a smaller meaty looking blade if I can. Also for kicks throw up your favorite irons ever.

 

1. I just bought a set of P7TW tiger spec. Beautiful, impulsive. I like them but something about the squareness of the heel and lack of heel toe camber bothers my eyes at address.. so I cant decide if I really want to sully them on the course or collect them... or beat them to hell and buy another to collect in a year or two >:)

 

2. Wilson Fg 59. I love these. I have the Edwin Watts re-release and I am searching for the real deal. So hard to find since they dont make them anymore.. But point is that's the sort of look I am searching for.

 

3. .... I really don't feel like grinding my own irons just yet to get exactly what I want and I can't afford full customs soooo...

I'm just gonna say, try the Mizuno MP-20 MBs. Probably the most beautiful irons I have seen and tried yet (20+ years playing since a kid). Another option is the new titleist 620 MB, which also look dead gorgeous.

620 mb have that sole camber you’re looking for. Could also go epon or miura, both have leading/trailing edge relief.

hahaha immediately jumps to a 2300 dollar set of blades. I'm afraid I wont purchase real ones somehow. Ive also heard mixed thing about whether they are all hype. Have you tried them?

I play em and they are easy and wonderful to play. I have a few sets of the Baby Blades and rarely play my 10 other sets. Very satisfying to play.

Sounds like you're talking about MP33's, except they're not especially small.

Play the p7tw set. They Are never going to be worth collecting. They aren’t limited except by TM inability to fill orders. Lol.

Just got MP20 MB. Just played 6 holes with them walking around and they were really nice. If you’re steep I’d go for 620MB as they get through the turf better than the MP grind IMO. For the money though Mizuno has it all day long with free shaft and grip upgrades.

Just give one of you sets the Bubba treatment. Belt grinder and grind down heel and toe. The club making section has a mini tutorial on how to it.

Love my set of the FG59's. They are still my favourite ever blade, I am always on the look out for a back up set but they don't come up often

MP-32s. The new Yonex irons look sweet. You know you can just bend them all a club weak and play 9-3. That will take off all the offset.

These are my favourite was well, though the new Tour Blade certainly comes in close second. Haven't had an opportunity to hit them yet - I have a lousy 3m.o. needing selfish things like attention and sleep.

I have played Mizuno MP-69's for about nine years now. I love the blades. I have tried other clubs but always end up returning to my Mizuno's. There is something about playing blades that I'm drawn to. Maybe it's ego. Nobody I know plays them. Even the younger guys at my club, don't.

I'll admit that I don't hit them as far as a more forgiving club but I always felt that the new clubs are just designed to hide your flaws. I bought these clubs when I had no business buying them. I was a 20 handicap when I bought them.

I'm now in the single digits but these clubs forced me to become a good ball striker. I'll admit that I only use the 6 on down. I use Hybrids for the long irons. 3,4,5 The long irons are very hard to hit. I just don't have the swing speed to get these Airbourne.

I have looked at other blades but what is the point?

 

It's not the clubs that make us better but practice. I can use anything now.

I think if you want an a really cheap/bargain choice, the old Ben Hogan BH Grinds fit this bill. They have a decent amount of bounce and camber, but thin sole and topline and they're Miura BB small. Basically, the Callaway Apex MB pulls heavily from the Hogan Redline / BH Grind designs--they even feel almost identical.

 

Only difference is, I picked up my Redlines and BH Grind sets for $50-$60 a set. I had to get them regripped, and the regrip cost more than the irons. :D

Has anyone built up a set to their specs with the new Wilson staff blades? Just curious on how they play.
