St. Albans Country Club-St. Louis

Anyone know the current status as of the overall shape of this place? I know there were some shortfalls in recent years due to a windfall of people leaving because of the economy. I'm looking at a house in one of the neighborhoods and I'm a little nervous that if the CC goes under house values will plummet.

I don't know any details about St Albans, but feel the local economy is still a long way from being where it was 5-10 yrs ago. I personally don't see any great increase in private club memberships happening any time soon. Just my opinion.

I was more worried about a house on a golf course community tanking! St. Albans is a really neat area, but a big part of that is the country club with 36 holes aspect of it.

Good for them. Glad to hear that. I was told by someone who's been around the place since it was started that it was on life support and the wealthiest member (who is also part of the development team who bought the land back in the 80's/90's) would eventually buy the club and take it to single ownership vs an equity membership. When I worked there in the late 90's it was a true invitation only, need a sponsor club and the intiation fee was near $30k. The rate sheet I was given has a full fledged membership being $7,500 and deals for homeowners in the area, junior members, etc. A huge change, but I think that has been the story for a lot of country clubs in the country.

I've been around there since I was a kid and it still is the coolest area in St. Louis in my opinion. I think it's still a hidden gem.

I played out of one of the new bunkers on the Lewis and Clark course, and it was incredible. Let's hope the renovation will spur some new membership for the club.

This past weekend, I played with a guy who works on the course. He is not in management, so take this with a grain of salt, but he felt the club was in very good shape, financially.

My friend was a former head pro there and I've always enjoyed playing on Lewis and Clark course. But it seems very wet most of the time and this renovation should improve it and hopefully make it even more appealing down the road. It mentioned about improvements to the clubhouse, I don't know how that clubhouse could be any better. It's already an awesome building.

If I lived in west St Louis area, this club would be one of my choices to join.

Just bought a house on the 13th hole on Tavern Creek and got a great deal on it. The club is too expensive for me to join even being 32. So I'll live on a hole that I can't go out a chip and putt on at night....

They have the bunkers done on Lewis and Clark and the sand for Tavern Creek is in the parking lot now. I heard the main dining on the 4th floor was closed. If so that's a big deal.

Well, how is it there so far? Played there yesterday and LOVED IT. If it wasn't so far from me I'd consider joining (I live in Richmond Heights, so about a 30-40 min drive). How is the club and/or neighborhood doing these days? Club still struggling financially?
